GSN Makes Statement About “Quiznation” Cancelation

GSN representatives just emailed us a statement they made about the cancelation of Quiznation. I thought this may interest those of you who enjoy it.

Dear PlayManiacs,

We have greatly appreciated your support of our PlayMania efforts over the last 19 months; it’s been an amazing experience and we’re glad to see that you’ve enjoyed playing along. It goes without saying that we’ve learned much from your feedback (so keep it coming) and while it’s true that quiznation’s last night will be October 31, we have even bigger and better participation opportunities in store for you all in the coming months. As soon as we’ve set all the details, you’ll be the first to know. We’d say more, but we don’t want to spoil the surprises.

Sincerely,

Your Friends at GSN

Playmania Cancelled

Following the October 31st edition of Playmania/Quiznation, the show will be no more as GSN has cancelled what used to be a really good show. The show really started to slip when they decided that doing pretty much 3 games a show was better than 10 games a show. This transition happened after the Goddess Mel Peachey left the show back in April.

Replacing the two hour block is another two hour block of…you guessed it! Reruns! At 12am we get some fun Who Wants to Be a Millionaire which I’m sure everyone is excited for. But then the actual good news starts as for 5 days a week, 1am to 2am consists of Trivia Trap and Now You See It. This may be a good step in the right direction for GSN. But it’s probably just some filler until they find something better to fill it with.

Nick GAS to go Broadband-Only

Nickelodeon Games and Sports (Nick GAS), a once popular kids channel to see the many game shows Nickelodeon produced in the 90s, has announced that they will be going Broadband-Only. The reason for the replacement is The N Noggin, two seperate channels that shared one, are going to be spliting up into their own channels, and Nick GAS ’s slot gets one of them. The channel used to have such a variety of shows, blocks, and segments with hosts such as Dave Aizer, Vivianne Collins and Mati Moralejo. A network that used to show 20-25 shows a week, now only shows 6 shows a day with each host being dropped from the network, with it being a sign that Nickelodeon just doesn’t care anymore for this channel. They have not announced when this will be happening although I expect it to happen within the next year. It had a great run, but I think laying it to rest is for the better now.

Bert’s Family Feud Gets the Axe

After 15 months on the air, Bert’s Family Feud is cancelled.  Bert Newton himself only just got word yesterday.  The show was meant to be competition to Deal or No Deal, and sadly, did not fare well.  It had only 580,000 viewers, compared to Deal’s 917,000.

The final show of Bert’s Family Feud will air June 1st.

“The Great American Dream Vote” Canceled

This season has been a season of very short runs for shows that aren’t doing that well.  ABC’s wish fulfillment show, The Great American Dream Vote has been canceled after two episodes.  It was so close to being tied with a show that didn’t deserve to be canceled, The Rich List, which lasted one episode.  Of course ABC is saying it can come back, but we’ll believe it when we see it.  Hey, Name That Tune fans: it clears Donny Osmond up for that show again at least.  Donny Osmond, host of Dream Vote, is also hosting Pyramid in England, where they seem to have fixed many things, like allowing returning contestants (If you climb the Pyramid twice in one show) plus 7 in 30, and we’ve heard the show is quite good period.  Now why couldn’t we get a decent revival of the perfect game show?

“Play2Win” Dead on National Basis

Thanks to reader Troy Diggs for this story. On Thursday night, the poor hosts of “Play2Win”, another “Playmania” ripoff, were making a big deal over the fact that the show is no longer on nationally. It still airs on WPIX in New York, but unless there are some other stations we’re not aware of, that’s about it. Supposedly, on Thursday night, they upped the money a bit but only did three puzzles. I’m sure you can imagine the huge amount of stalling they did then.

“The Joker’s Wild” and The Other Show Dead

No one can censor us with this one: according to Broadcasting & Cable, Roger King’s two new shows, “The Joker’s Wild” and The Other One are not being taken to NATPE 2007.  Reasons?  He says the lack of right time periods.  This is a bit confusing counting that three shows were just announced recently.  What I’m going to believe is that they don’t feel that the two shows can compare or that it’s just not worth the cost.  Either one, so who knows.  Roger King says they are reassessing “The Joker’s Wild” and The Other One.  He says we may see them in January of next year, but we’ll have to see about that.

Now what I’ve wanted to type for a bit: there’s a reason we aren’t using “The Joker’s Wild”’s companion by name.  Recently “people close to the show” tried to get us to change and/or pull the original article saying that the shows were dead from our site.  We refused.  The reason we refused is that this is not the first time this is happened.  The creator of The Other One wanted us to pull an article nearly a year ago where we said hiring Todd Newton to host “The Price is Right” would be one of the worst decisions possible.  Again, this was OUR opinion.  He wanted us to pull the article because it might hurt his feelings.  We were just forming and didn’t want any bad blood, so we agreed.  We thought that the most recent attempt was just plain pathetic and an attempt to stroke the ego of someone’s show which did not make it.  This is the honest to whatever god you believe in truth of what happened, and we were a bit hurt, upset, and angered by the situation.  We felt we needed to state this publicly.
But hey, look at the great shows we have for 2007!  “Temptation(s)” is coming, and I know you all will love it.  We might see either “Catch Phrase” or “Connections” plus another three were just announced.  And we’re so confused about “Deal or No Deal” right now we don’t know what’s going to happen.  Be on the lookout as this week is NATPE, and everything will be announced right here on BuzzerBlog!

ABC Cancels “Show Me the Money”

B&C announced that ABC has canceled “Show Me the Money”.  They have seven additional episodes taped which will continue to air in the Tuesday, January 2nd (8PM ET) time slot, but has decided against the order or more episodes after that.  I guess it took the ratings to sink five weeks in a row for ABC to get the picture.  This week, the show had a 4.4/7 and a 1.6/5 in the 18-49 demographic.  Complete opinion here, but I’m happy they finally canned it.  It’s just a lousy show which got watered down to an extreme degree by ABC.  No, obviously it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, but it was pretty bad.  At least William Shatner was entertaining.

EDIT: B&C just updated: “Show Me the Money” is now pulled from the air for good and will be replaced by episodes of “America’s Funniest Home Videos”.

“I’ve Got A Secret” Cancelled

I just got done talking to a panel member on the show “I’ve Got A Secret”, currently on at 9;30PM ET on GSN, and she stated that in October, GSN decided not to make any more episodes, so unless some freakish reversal order comes in it’s officially cancelled. It’s a true shame in my eyes, as I thought it was incredibly funny and entertaining. It also scored very nice ratings (at GSN standards) at the 11:30PM ET time slot, seeing ratings in the .3-.4.

Edit: I completely forgot that “Anything to Win” had scores in that area, with the Tanya Harding episode earning a .7.
