Nickelodeon Games and Sports (Nick GAS), a once popular kids channel to see the many game shows Nickelodeon produced in the 90s, has announced that they will be going Broadband-Only. The reason for the replacement is The N Noggin, two seperate channels that shared one, are going to be spliting up into their own channels, and Nick GAS 's slot gets one of them. The channel used to have such a variety of shows, blocks, and segments with hosts such as Dave Aizer, Vivianne Collins and Mati Moralejo. A network that used to show 20-25 shows a week, now only shows 6 shows a day with each host being dropped from the network, with it being a sign that Nickelodeon just doesn't care anymore for this channel. They have not announced when this will be

Very sad news today. Merv Griffin, creator of Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, and Crosswords; radio personality; and host of The Merv Griffin Show has passed away at age 82. Mr. Griffin also had a brief film career, in which he appeared opposite Doris Day and Kathryn Grayson. After Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! became the hottest game shows in television, Griffin sold the rights to them to the Columbia Pictures Television Unit for $250 million, retaining a share of the profits. He started spreading the sale money around in treasury bonds, stocks and other investments, but quickly became bored, leading to the creation of Crosswords which debuts September 10th across the country in syndication. Griffin died of prostate cancer, according to a s

Each will have its own color scheme and will be used for appropriate shows. As part of its “humanizing” approach, Kaplan cast “real” contestants from GSN’s original game shows as well as using GSN’s on-air hosts. The hosts, including LINGO’s Chuck Woolery and Shandi Finnessey, played a lively game of charades with CHAIN REACTION host giving the clues for a series of network ID promos. Additionally, to complement GSN’s rich library of classic game shows, as well as original contemporary shows, actors in all of the new network menus wore wardrobe and hair styles from the era that the show was originally produced. "Deal or No Deal" is being sued by Judy Myers, media mogul and best-selling fitness author, because she tripped down the stairs on her way to a dance contest. I would file this under "Total Nonsense." A) She was a paid audience member, so she was probably under some sort of liability clause. B) She's a fitness guru, so she should know how stairs work. C) She was going to participate in a dance contest, which is obviously an optional event. Heck, I've tripped on stairs before, and saw no need to sue. It's her own damn fault.

Instead, WPTE has made an alliance with GSN for season six, with the option for at least two more seasons. This one COMPLETELY came out of left field. ABC is redoing the 80s game show Dream House for the new generation of game shows. This is a partnership of Walt Disney Company, Warner Brothers, and Time Warner. In this new version, seven newlywed couples "will be put to the test both mentally and physically for a chance at starting their married life in a brand new dream house." This is evidently not going to be a straight revival of the 80s version of Dream House which can be read about here. If you'd like to apply to be on the show or nominate someone to be on it, please visit this website for more information or visit a Craigslist posting. If you wish to appear on the show, you must be available for four weeks in May; you may not return home during this time.

I like this development: According to a GSN website, the two-hour live interactive game show "Playmania" is becoming a block of two shows, "100 Winners" and "Quiznation". "100 Winners", hosted by Mel Peachey, sees contestants who are selected answer an in-show question. If they do, they get to pick one of the 100 safe deposit boxes containing a prize. Mel Peachey's goal for the show is to open up all 100 safes in the show's time. "Quiznation", hosted by Shandi Finnessey, is basically going to be what "Playmania" is now, so no big development there. Here's the site you can look at. It's looking like Jessica York was left out of the picture. Quite frankly, that's not surprising or a bad thing. I've seen her host, and she just isn't that good at it. She might be a very good television personality on other shows, but on "Playmania", she just wasn't that good, in my opinion. UPDATE: Scheduling information has been announced in a breaking press release. "100 Winners" will air Tuesdays through Thursdays, starting next week, from 12AM to 2AM ET. "quiznation" will air Fridays through Sundays from 12AM to 2AM ET. All three ways to play along (text, internet, and landline).

Remember all those syndicated shows that we reported on before? They might not all be syndicated. TVWeek is claiming that MyNetwork, which basically airs all failing telenovelas, is thinking about adding game shows. "MyGamesFever", a PlayMania clone, was announced ages ago and is apparently coming to fruitation. Also, the shows claimed to be possibly syndicated, "Connections" from Granada, "Catch Phrase", and "Temptations" from Fremantle, might be exclusives to MyNetwork rather than syndication. We aren't 100% sure so take it with a grain of salt, but we're strongly assuming that "Temptations" is "Temptation", the new version of "Sale of the Century". We will keep you updated.
