Weekend Replay: £200,000 On the Line on “The Million Pound Drop”

Channel 4's The Million Pound Drop came back for a new series, airing every Friday and Saturday night for the next few weeks live.  The Davina McCall quiz show has had a few winners, but no one has taken over £75,000 away from the drop.  One couple in season one had a chance to win £525,000 but lost it all on the final question.  Rick and Sophie played an amazing game, making it to the final question, number eight, with £200,000.  They either take it all home or they get nothing on the final question.  Getting £200,000, after conversion, would make them the biggest winners in any version of the show.  Did they do it?  Click here to watch and find out.

Chris Tarrant Speaks About US TV & Millionaire Live/Million Pound Drop News

It has been reported this week ITV will launch a one off celebrity special of Who Wants to be a Millionaire for Christmas. Unlike previous years, the £1 million pound quiz show will be broadcasted live for only the second time in their 12 year old run. The original host, Chris Tarrant was speaking to the Metro newspaper on Tuesday who was also taking about the state of US television with Simon Cowell's The X Factor launching in 2011. He went on to say "There is something ridiculous about the way Americans do shows. There seems to be a thousand people with clip boards shouting. It would drive me mad." Tarrant was offered to host the US primetime version in 1999 but turned down the role, which was later accepted by Regis Philbin. He explai

Weekend Replay: “Million Pound Drop” Series Two Finale Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: “Million Pound Drop” Series Two Finale

This weekend saw the second series finale of Channel 4's popular game show The Million Pound Drop.  With the American version, Fox's Million Dollar Money Drop hosted by Kevin Pollak, coming soon I thought it would be a good idea to show off more of the British version.  We've got two pretty different endings here.  First we have a civilian team who makes it to the final question and plays for a pretty nice £50,000. Right after that is a clip from a celebrity game featuring one of my favorite comedians: Jimmy Carr. Jimmy plays with Johnny Vaughan.  If you want to see how this game stresses you out, just keep looking at Jimmy.  He seemed like he was going to pass out the entire time.  I think this is the first time I've ever seen him act sincere. Great episode. Read more to see the video.

Ratings Report: Most Shows Stay Flat Thumbnail

Ratings Report: Most Shows Stay Flat

We've got some new ratings for the newest week of the syndicated season ending on October 17th.  The best news of any show was Wheel of Fortune.  It's the only show which managed to go up.  Wheel went up 2% to a 6.6.  Incidentally that's the season's highest rating for Wheel so nice job for them.  Wheel's companion show, Jeopardy!, stayed flat at a 5.5, and flat is as good as any other show did so that's good news for them. Find out the ratings for the rest of the syndicated game shows, plus Channel 4's The Million Pound Drop, after the break. Click Read More to see them all.

UK News Flashes: “Only Connect”, and “Million Pound Drop”

A lot of smaller news stories came out from England today.  First off, as we've often said, Only Connect on BBC4 is, without a doubt, the smartest show on television anywhere.  It makes Jeopardy! look like child's play often.  Yesterday's episode had a first for the show. And finally, The Million Pound Drop had its live debut last night. Check out some of the episode, plus all the full stories, after the break. Read More for all the information.

Report: Fox Finished Taping “Million Dollar Money Drop”

This one is a shocker.  According to one audience report posted on Hollywood Junket, the American version of the hit UK game show The Million Pound Drop has already taped.  Fox's version, called Million Dollar Money Drop, apparently taped for two days and around five episodes a day. Kevin Pollack hosts. The Fox version gives a team of contestants fifty stacks of $20,000 (unlike the forty stacks of £25,000 in the original) to place on drop zones corresponding to answers. Wrong answers drop away. After seven questions (unlike the eight of the original), any money left over will be taken home. Read More for further details.

News Flashes: “Fifth Grader” Settlement, “Money Drop” and “The Hub” Preview Episodes

Three small news stories for you this morning. The first million dollar winner on Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? (the Fox network version) has been in a long battle for her money. It looks like there may be a settlement. Then, I've been talking a great deal about The Million Pound/Money Drop over the past few months because I've always had a good feeling about it.  It looks like we've got the next big international format. It's been taken to MIPCOM for international sales. Shine International signed a deal with ABC to take the yet-to-be-aired logic based quiz show, Million Dollar Mind Game to MIPCOM as well. Finally, excited to see The Hub's new game shows Family Game Night and Pictureka after seeing what they look like?  Thanks to reader Travis for a tip on our Twitter page for this bit of news: it looks like you can see a preview of the episodes On Demand. Fox’s “Money Drop” Still Casting; Apply Now

The hit Channel 4 game show The Million Pound Drop will be coming back in October, but Americans now have a chance to stand on the tower and play one of the most nerve-wracking games in years for a seven figure prize.  Fox acquired the rights to the show, called The Money Drop for us, and is still casting contestants. It's only eight questions and a lot of guts to take home hundreds of thousands of dollars, potentially a million.  One team went for the final question with over a half million pounds in play, so it's very possible to win huge. Read on for the casting call location. It's tomorrow, so act quick!

“Million Dollar Drop” Now Casting Thumbnail

“Million Dollar Drop” Now Casting

A while ago it was announced that Fox picked up the hit Channel 4 game show The Million Pound Drop for at least a pilot and, most likely, a series.  The casting is beginning and if you want in, now's the time.  The interesting thing is they look to be building a set in Los Angeles for this as opposed to taping on the British set, and this was a pretty expensive one, so I'm wagering that it's looking likely for a full pick up.  Click here to apply. Read on for more information about the show and why you should apply.
