GSN Cuts Back on Poker in Wake of Government Crackdown
It's been a rough week if you're a poker fan. Last Friday, April 15th, the US government began a major crackdown on online poker sites. The case U.S. v. Scheinberg et al. lead to the three largest online poker destinations being shut down, those being PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker/Ultimate Bet. Many of you have been rightly concerned about what this will do to some of your favorite poker television programming, most of which is at least somewhat sponsored by the major sites. GSN has made its decision in regards to its very popular program High Stakes Poker, hosted by Norm Macdonald. Click here to read more about the network's cutback on poker, plus a statement from a GSN spokesperson.

PokerNewsDaily is reporting that GSN has renewed its popular poker cash game High Stakes Poker for a seventh season. The show had a remotely rocky sixth season with declining ratings, schedule changes, and controversial cast changes including the removal of longtime host A.J. Benza. However, it's done well enough to bring Gabe Kaplan and company back for another season. Taping will begin November 18th for three days. No word yet on when it will show up.

I've got a few news flashes for you today. *A few weeks ago we talked about ABC picking up a new Mark Burnett pilot Trust Me, I'm A Game Show Host. The show involves two hosts talking about something, with one being truthful and the other lying. The contestants have to figure out which one is trying to trick the other. It looks like that's going to tape its pilot soon. Craigslist posts are going up for a new Mark Burnett game show that fits the description perfectly. As with everything else it's based out of Los Angeles, so if you're in the area and want a shot at big money, click here to participate. It looks to be a really interesting and different show if nothing else. *GSN released some High Stakes Poker ratings information.

We've got ratings for the week ending February 2nd coming up. First, though, we got reports of ratings for the premiere of High Stakes Poker. Given how popular the show has been in the past, the ratings are shockingly low. We've got reports that the show sixth season debut only got a .2 rating. It's very down, by that show's standards. I wonder what happened. Has interest just died down? I've been hearing from a few people that there really was practically little attention given or huge support, showcasing what is probably the channel's most valuable show (and rightly so).

I know we're behind on the game discussing the whole High Stakes Poker fiasco with A.J. Benza being fired and everything, but I just wanted to wait until I got a lot more information. Especially information from very credible sources. One of these credible sources happens to be A.J. Benza. He's great and I really feel for him. I also feel a horrible horrible mistake that is going to hurt the show a bit was made. Read A.J.'s blog if you get a chance by clicking here. It's an interesting read. I've been talking to A.J., who I never got the chance to talk to before, and he's really fantastic. He got completely screwed on this and we'll have more with him coming up, trust me. For those not familiar High Stakes Poker is a pretty popula

Sorry, I thought someone was updating the site when I went away. Guess not. But lots of GSN news in my inbox. First off watch GSN Live tomorrow. Alan Thicke who hasn't been as awful as an Expert on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? this week as I imagined, will be the guest. You can see him at around 1:15PM ET. He hosted a GSN show called Three's A Crowd a long time ago. Apparently it wasn't that popular because I don't remember him on GSN at all. Bingo America tomorrow is going to be great for all home viewers playing along as well. On Friday, the hit GSN show Bingo America will be matching any $50 winner with a $50 gift certificate for a "turkey". Although it may be worth noting that there's no way in hell you'll be getting your

So my car completely broke down yesterday. I spent basically all day yesterday either swearing on the side of the street or trying to get my car fixed. It's why there was no news yesterday. But I did get a press release from GSN in my inbox last night that would have gone up. It's a reminder that the channel's poker programming, High Stakes Poker and World Poker tour are moving to Sunday nights starting this weekend, September 28th. “We think poker on Sunday night is a great way for viewers to end their weekend and begin their week,” said Kevin Belinkoff, Vice President of Original Programming and Development at GSN. “With HIGH STAKES POKER and WORLD POKER TOUR, we’re proud to have the best poker in the world and we’re looking forwar

Edit: I fixed the Sunday casino block schedule; sorry about the confusion, I overlooked that part in the original schedule excel file I was sent. World Poker Tour airs at 9:00PM ET and 1:00AM ET on Sundays. The other time slots that evening are High Stakes Poker. GSN's been doing a lot of rearranging recently. First off, just a minor note that the Sunday decades specials called Laugh Out Loud have been newly titled Play It Back. Those schedules remain the same. However, starting on September 22nd, all casino programming will be gone from weekday time slots. Casino programming will only been seen on Sundays from 7:00PM to 3:00AM ET and that's just a mishmash of High Stakes Poker and World Poker Tour. WPT is on Sundays at 1AM ET and
