Red Carpet Interviews from the 2009 Game Show Awards

One final post before the Game Show Awards on Saturday at 8:00PM ET on GSN, I swear.  GSN nicely posted some videos of the red carpet interviews that we couldn't get to on their YouTube page for us.  Take a look. (more...)

A Marriage Proposal on the 2009 Game Show Awards

Here's our last video of the actual games played during GSN's 2009 Game Show Awards, debuting June 6th at 8:00PM ET. During a relationship game much like The Newlywed Game, a contestant asks his girlfriend to marry him.

Preview of the Game Show Awards Ceremony

I talked about my red carpet experience for GSN's 2009 Game Show Awards, debuting June 6th at 8:00PM ET. That aspect was an incredible amount of fun and such a thrill. And then we come to the actual meat of the show, which is the awards ceremony. I went in cautiously optimistic, and it ended up very fun. There are two different sections of the show: the actual awards and the games. To make the ceremony more like a game show, they threw in games between each award. As for the giving-of-the-awards, that was fine. Actually, it was extremely fine. The presenters were funny and right on target. The winners, for the most part, were good and deserved it. I'd still love to see the results because some of those winners weren’t ones I would have predicted, especially with the disclaimer that was on the bottom of the voting site. The two real treats to me were the special tributes to Mark Goodson and Monty Hall. I'm a big Monty Hall and Let's Make A Deal fan, so seeing the entire video tribute to him, including clips of his early hosting gig on Video Village, was a real treat. His LMAD co-host Carol Merrill made a terrific

GSN Live Plans a REALLY BIG SHOW Friday, June 5th, at 5:30PM ET Thumbnail

GSN Live Plans a REALLY BIG SHOW Friday, June 5th, at 5:30PM ET

GSN's giving you an early look at the 2009 Game Show Awards. Watch the network on Friday, June 5th, at 5:30PM ET and check out GSN Live's REALLY BIG SHOW. It's essentially an addition to GSN Live for the day and will feature hosts Fred Roggin, Heidi Bohay, Debra Skelton, and Alfonso Ribeiro. Featured in the show will be comedienne Julie Brown. Maybe there will be a red carpet there so she can walk down it a fourth time. The biggest highlight of GSN Live on Friday is that Monty Hall of Let's Make A Deal will be a special guest. He's being awarded The Game Show Awards Icon Award. That should be a nice sit-down with him. Behind-the-scenes footage of Game Show Awards host Howie Mandel hitting the streets having fun and playing some games with the public will be seen during the half-hour special as well. Curious about the on-street footage? Here are a few videos of the action.  More coming tomorrow.

A Very Brady Game on GSN’s 2009 Game Show Awards

We've got a few more videos to show you before the big premiere of GSN's 2009 Game Show Awards, debuting June 6th at 8:00PM ET. Don't forget to take a look at their Twitter and Facebook pages by clicking here. Here's another video of one of the mini-games thrown in between each award can you. This one's essentially a giant Brady Bunch parody, featuring four of the Brady kids.

Cloris Leachman and “Dancing With the Stars” on the 2009 Game Show Awards Thumbnail

Cloris Leachman and “Dancing With the Stars” on the 2009 Game Show Awards

As I've said before, one of the biggest thrills I had at GSN's 2009 Game Show Awards, debuting June 6th at 8:00PM ET, is meeting Cloris Leachman. I'm a big Mel Brooks fan, and Young Frankenstein's my favorite movie. Getting to meet Cloris, who was featured in many Brooks movies as well as playing Phyllis on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and her spin-off, was a thrill that I didn't see coming my way. Cloris and other Dancing With the Stars pros came on stage during one act of the awards to dance to some classic game show music. Take a look. Be sure not to miss it on Saturday. While you're at it, check out the GSAs on Facebook by clicking here, or on Twitter by clicking here also.

Game Show Awards Preview: Ken Jennings VS Charo

It's hard to believe but GSN's 2009 Game Show Awards, hosted by Howie Mandel, is only a few days away. It debuts this Saturday at 8:00PM ET. With it coming so close, we want to make sure you're excited and ready for it. All this week we're going to be showing you either video or picture content, along with some of our opinions, of the awards all leading up to the big event on Saturday evening. We'll even bring back the BuzzerBlog chat box so you all can talk about the show and what you thought of it all. Today let's start with some video. Between each award, different games are played with contestants hoping to win big cash and prizes. Some of the games were between celebrities, though. For instance, check out this trivia competition with Ken Jennings. Who better to face off against Ken than...Charo?

Inside Look at GSN’s 2009 Game Show Awards Red Carpet

You'll be hearing a lot about GSN's 2009 Game Show Awards, which debuts on June 6th at 8:00PM ET, for the next few days. We've already shown you some pictures of the actual awards themselves. You haven't seen anything from our red carpet experience yet, though. I've never sat through a red carpet event before. Really, how many times will a game show fan have to be on a red carpet? Some big game show celebrities, and some personal favorites of mine, walked the carpet. GSN personalities like Heidi Bohay and Fred Roggin (GSN Live and The Money List, respectively) walked as well as comedians like Nicole Sullivan (Rita Rocks). One of the biggest thrills I experienced at the awards was talking to Monty Hall, host of Let's Make A Deal. His co-host from the classic series, Carol Merril, was by his side during the event. I talked to Mr. Hall about the new edition of Let's Make A Deal being planned for CBS Daytime and hopefully showing up on your television soon. Monty looked very excited about this prospect and said he's been auditioning hosts for the past few months and has been searching for the perfect person to carry o

Game Show Awards Fight: Bob Barker VS. Betty White Thumbnail

Game Show Awards Fight: Bob Barker VS. Betty White

UPDATED INFORMATION:We've got some new information from various sources including Carrie at About.GameShows.  Right now it seems that Betty White will not be appearing.  She will make a pretaped tribute to Mark Goodson. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to get to go to the 2009 Game Show Awards this coming weekend now.  Thanks to a reader's Facebook link for this story. There may be a fight for the GSAs even before it begins.  This one may or may not against Bob Barker and Betty White, according to some gossip websites (so you know the drill about trusting those).  If you aren't familiar with their situation, a feud over an elephant at the Los Angeles Zoo who outgrew his pen created a rift between the two.  Barker wanted to relocate the elephant to San Andreas where it should have fun with the earthquares, and White wanted to keep it at the LA Zoo and build a larger home.  Betty White won and apparently Barker is pissed. Allegedly, according to the tabloid, Bob Barker is threatening not to appear at the awards if Betty White shows up.  Of course we have no official confirmation and GSN will never confirm this for

A Closer Look at GSN’s 2009 Game Show Awards Thumbnail

A Closer Look at GSN’s 2009 Game Show Awards

One thing that's been exciting a lot of game show fans recently has been GSN's announcement of the 2009 Game Show Awards, taking place in Los Angeles in May 16th and airing June 6th at 8:00PM ET.  You can vote for the awards by clicking the logo to the left or just by clicking here as well.  We now at least know the host is Howie Mandel who's packing up for Connecticut soon, and we know the basic workings.  I wanted to get a closer look, though.  Kelly Goode, the head of programming at GSN, sat down with me for a bit to discuss how things are going with the awards, the difficulty of putting on the show, and the fan's response. Many game show fans feel this award show is a long-time coming for the genre.  "When I got here this had already been discussed,"  she said.  "It seems among the things people were talking about doing, let's look into this right away, because as you said this is long overdue.  We wanted to have some of the traditional categories that some would expect...but in having some of the other categories that are a little more tongue in cheek but all are very memorable about game shows." Awards shows usually
