Week Two of “Dancing With the Stars” on GSN Continues to Dive
Viewers of GSN may not have to live with Dancing With the Stars much longer, if the executives are paying any attention to the ratings. Week one was an ominous start but not a disaster. It's become a ratings disaster in week two. The off-network reruns of the popular ABC dancing game show are proving anything but popular for the network where traditional game shows tend to do the best. The show lost over a quarter of its audience from the debut week. Click here for the full run down.

It's been a slow news day and an incredibly busy day, personally, for all of us. Luckily we found something interesting for you. Good news for fans of traditional game shows today, but not-so-good news for GSN. The much-advertised debut of the off network reruns of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, for all intents and purposes, tanked in its debut showing. No episode managed to crack the top 15 most watched programs of the network. GSN's usual standby off network reruns of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, Family Feud, and Deal or No Deal managed to rate higher. Not only that their originals Baggage, The Newlywed Game, Catch 21, and Whammy! to either rank higher or not far behind the expensive acquisition. Even the abused The $100,000 Pyramid did better. Click here for the full rundown of each episode's rating, what it means, and other opinions.

We're in our third straight year of game shows that involve dropping people for losing. We had Downfall, and then 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show, and now Who's Still Standing?. However, these shows, especially the recent NBC one mentioned last, makes us remember just how incredibly good Russian Roulette was and how far ahead GSN/Game Show Network was ahead of anyone else. It also does show us that GSN can create a show that rivals anything else out there if they put out effort. We've posted some of the show on Facebook, and we wanted to go into it more here. Click here to see some of the show and why both television producers and GSN should look back to it.

GSN issued their schedules for January as we drift closer to 2012, unbelievably. The network will be taking away two shows and shuffling a few things around because of it. First, GSN will be removing High Stakes Poker from the lineup effectively January 2nd, 2012. Also being completely removed is Chain Reaction, and The $25,000 Pyramid loses some but not all of its slots. Jeopardy! returns to the weekday lineup as well. GSN is almost old enough to buy us a carton of smokes legally. It's GSN's 17th birthday. On this day in 1994 Game Show Network debuted. The very first show ever shown on Game Show Network was Match Game. What's the first show that appears on the schedule weekdays like today, its birthday? Match Game. Funny how things come full circle. Without GSN we wouldn't have some of the all-time great game and dating shows like Lingo, Russian Roulette, and Baggage, nor some incredibly good short lived cult shows like Late Night Liars. Congratulations to David Goldhill and everyone at GSN and I look forward to more years of GSN. Click here to watch the first moments of GSN's existence.

GSN is revamping their recently struggling primetime lineup starting November 7th. Instead of featuring the same shows night after night, GSN will showcase different programs, both old and new, from 7:00PM ET to 12:00AM ET. These shows carry on at least through the week of November 14th. We don't have schedules after that, so if shows rotate after that it's not known. GSN has acquired the rights to the hit Fox game show Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader. The Jeff Foxworthy hosted quiz show, which tested adults on material that appears somewhere in fifth grade text books, will begin airing Sunday, November 6th, at 7:00PM ET on GSN. Fifth Grader ran from 2007 to 2009 on Fox in primetime and from 2009 to 2011 in syndication as a half hour version. The Hub currently airs the half hour syndicated episodes. GSN has not indicated yet if this will be the hour long million dollar edition or not, but given the half hour edition airs with The Hub and both the syndicated half hour episodes of Deal or No Deal and Millionaire never did that well for them, I'd guess it would be the primetime episodes. We'll let you know as soon as we find out. Click here to watch a trailer GSN released.

A major personnel change is going on at GSN. Kelly Goode, the senior vice president of programming, is out of the network. Kelly started in 2008 and helped bring in The Newlywed Game (with a variety of others after some format adjustments), Big Saturday Night, Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza, Instant Recall, Carnie Wilson: Unstapled, The Game Show Awards, and Hidden Agenda among others. As of this writing no replacement has been named. GSN announced Kelly has, however, inked a production deal with the network for the next two years. In Hollywood this is basically called a Golden Parachute, which is really a generous benefits packaged bestowed upon someone after they are out of their position.
