Fox is getting back into the game show world with a new one, and it's pretty good. The network famous for American Idol and Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader has picked up ITV's hit dating show Take Me Out. Sources are saying that Fox is looking at a summer launch. Take Me Out was previously piloted by ABC before Fox took it over. Take Me Out is a unique show that mixes The Dating Game with 1 VS 100. Thirty single ladies appear each show. One man tries to win the women over through a series of rounds. If a lady is not interested she can hit a button on her podium to knock herself out. One lady may ultimately be left to go on a date with the man, or the man may go home alone. It's a unique, funny, and entertaining show hosted by Paddy McGuiness who does as well as you could possibly hope for. It will be a challenge to replace him for an American audience, if they do. Another former primetime game show will be coming back to television soon. The love-to-hate former Fox game show The Moment of Truth will be returning to television at an undisclosed time for an undisclosed network. The show is currently casting with notices appearing from Pitman Casting. The game show, originally airing on Fox in 2008 and hosted by Mark Walberg., asked contestants a series of very personal, potentially embarrassing, and potentially devastating questions to win up to $500,000. The show reached some level of television infamy when a contestant, Laura Cleri, admitted an affair on national television and proceeded to win nothing. Given the ratings and the overall reception the show got, as it got past its initial week-long event and sped the game up, this may not be a total surprise. An Endemol insider is telling readers, through Bother's Bar, that the Fox game show Million Dollar Money Drop will return this summer for a new series of episodes.
The show averaged around five and a half million viewers generally during its first run, nearly identical to what Minute to Win It got during its initial run this time last year (and still gets). And as we say constantly, Money Drop is cheap in broadcast network terms, it's good time filler, and it did well enough to deserve another season. Click here to read more, and for some facts backing this up.
Ratings Report: “Money Drop” Finishes Where it Started
Million Dollar Money Drop had its season finale last night and it doesn't seem to be able to gain or lose viewers. It finished pretty close to where it's been the entire time: a 3.3/5 rating. I've got no idea if it's coming back or not. It needed to get closer to a 4.0 rating last night to seem likely to me, but it's in the in-between world right now. I've said it repeatedly, though, Minute to Win It gets hailed as some sort of phenomenon and it doesn't do any better than Money Drop, so I won't be shocked to see it come back. Syndication didn't have the best week on record, either. Click here to read all the ratings.
