“The Cube” Returns With Big Money on the Line

One of the best made shows of the past ten years, The Cube, returned to ITV this weekend in great form.  The Cube is one of those shows that you don't realize how much it's missed and how good it is until it's back.  Beyond some new games the show you know and love returned as is hoping to give someone £250,000.  The show started with a £20,000 win, but then we come to the second contestant, Jodi, who matched the £20,000.  She's about play for £50,000 on a pretty difficult game.  Can she do it?  It comes down to the wire.  You really don't want to miss this one.  We'll, of course, be focusing on The Cube for the rest of the weekends its on.  Glad to have you back.  Click here to see the big moment.

“The Chase” USA Pilot Now Casting Thumbnail

“The Chase” USA Pilot Now Casting

A bit ago BuzzerBlog exclusively announced that The Chase, ITV's hit daytime quiz show, was making a jump to America for a Fox pilot.  The ITV Studios USA show is already into the casting phase for the pilot.  Anyone near Los Angeles who is a trivia buff and wants a free trip to London may want to take part.  I stress the free trip to London part.  You'll also get $1,000.  Just be 21 or over, have a passport, and able to be in Europe between May 11th and May 16th.  Incidentally, this is the same time that the newest celebrity episodes of The Chase tape, so UK residents be on the lookout for audience information at LostInTV.  Click here if you want to be a part of the pilot.  The Chase is arguably the best quiz show around anywhere right now, and I'd love some of our trivia buff BuzzerBlog readers to help bring it to America.

“The Cube” Returns to ITV Today at 9:15PM Thumbnail

“The Cube” Returns to ITV Today at 9:15PM

The Cube is back.  The award winning psychological and physical game show, hosted by Phillip Schofield, returns for a new series of episodes today, April 14th, at 9:15PM on ITV1.  Just seven games stand between one player and £250,000.  No one has won it in the show's three year history.  Will this be the year someone finally beats The Cube?  You won't want to miss it and be assured we'll cover it all.  We've dropped our tongue-in-cheek title "The British are Better Than Us" since we spun off to BuzzerUK and BuzzerUS, but, from an American perspective, few shows prove that title more true than The Cube.  It's produced nearly as perfectly as they can.  It hit a small snag last series due to unusually hard opening games which stopped too many people dead in their tracks, but I think we'll be moving around that easily this series.  Don't miss it.  Check us out tomorrow and/or Monday for the latest on the show.

Challenge Releases Two “Blockbusters” Previews Thumbnail

Challenge Releases Two “Blockbusters” Previews

The return of the classic format Blockbusters is pretty exciting to people both in the United Kingdom and America.  Exciting for those in the UK, obviously, because they get a brand new series hosted by Simon Mayo starting May 8th on Challenge.  It's exciting for Americans because we'll inevitably be able to watch it somehow (you know you'll see it here) and it's going to be interesting to see if such a classic format can survive today.  Challenge has released two promos for the show.  Click here to watch them and to read some more thoughts and opinions about the upcoming revival.

Happy Easter: Celebrate With “Don’t Scare the Hare” Thumbnail

Happy Easter: Celebrate With “Don’t Scare the Hare”

How could we not celebrate Easter, everyone favorite holiday of rabbits and chocolate, with our favorite rabbit-based game show.  OK, so that's a pretty exclusive club of one show.  Let's celebrate Easter with BBC's surreal 2011 game show Don't Scare the Hare.  Don't Scare the Hare can only be described as, "BBC executives took a bong hit before a development meeting and came up with this."  Essentially teams of adults played various challenges while trying not to scare an animatronic hare.  Not much more to the show.  It's really that, and it's as insane as it sounds.  Click here to read more about the show, see some clips, and let us know what you think, if you can still think.

“The Chase” Being Piloted for Fox in America Thumbnail

“The Chase” Being Piloted for Fox in America

We've teased it on Facebook and Twitter over the past few hours.  For American fans of the ITV game show The Chase, we've got some very good news.  Our sources are telling us that an American version of the popular quiz format is going into production.  This is just a pilot and not going to series yet, but it's a step in the right direction.  The same sources are telling us that this is going to Fox.  Our sources have never been wrong yet and there's no reason to doubt them on this one.  No information on host, Chaser(s), or format have been made public yet but we're hunting it down.  It's expected to have some changes for an American production, though.  Click here to learn more about the show.

ITV’s “The Cube” Returns Saturday, April 14th

The Cube is back.  The hit game show, hosted by Phillip Schofield, returns for its fifth series on Saturday, April 14th, at 9:15PM UK (4:15PM ET).  The Objective Productions-produced show recently taped a fifth and sixth series so more episodes will follow.  Yet again brave contestants will enter The Cube and try to beat seven challenges to win £250,000.  The games may seem simple...but nothing is simple once you step inside The Cube.  A few people have taken £100,000 from The Cube, but no one has beaten it and won the jackpot.  Is this the year it will happen.  Trust me, you won't want to miss any of this series.  Click here to read more about the new series and to see a clip from 2011 to refresh your memory.

Weekend Replay: “Weakest Link” Says Goodbye Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: “Weakest Link” Says Goodbye

This Saturday saw the final episode of BBC's Weakest Link, hosted by Anne Robinson.  While the American version didn't last too long, the original British version saw a healthy 12 year run and 1,693 episode run.  Anne Robinson decided to hang up the towel and step away from the hosting position late last year, and the show elected to end instead of replacing the, frankly, irreplaceable Queen of Mean.  The final episode saw nine of Anne's favorite contestants come back one final time.  The episode wasn't that much different from a normal edition beyond the fact that Anne let up a bit and freely laughed, clapped for the contestants, and generally acted a little more sincere and appreciative than normal.  Of course that didn't stop her from throwing a few zingers out there, either. Click here to watch some of the final episode. The first few round, in particular, is very funny.

Australian “The Price is Right” Set to Return to Channel 7 in April

The rumors are true...the Australian version of The Price is Right is coming back.  Larry Emdur, who hosted a version of the show from 1993 to 2005, is set to return to the iconic television series.  Production will begin this week with an episode dedicated to original host Ian Turpie who lost a battle with cancer in early March 2012.  The show is looking to debut sometime next month, April, and it's assumed it will air at 5:00PM.  This will make it precede currently-struggling Deal or No Deal, which has been seeing large drop-offs in viewership over the past few years.  Click here to learn more about the revival, how to apply to play, and hear what host Larry Emdur things.

Challenge’s “Blockbusters” Revival Stars May 8th; Network Announces New Returning Favorites

This will probably excite not only our readers that get Challenge in the United Kingdom, but the American readers who are fans of the show and can get a chance to see it.  Challenge's revival of the classic format Blockbusters, now hosted by Simon Mayo, will debut May 8th with the time to be announced soon.  The last studio-based game show the network attempted (please correct me if I'm wrong) is 2008's It's Not What You Know with Chris Tarrant.  The show taped earlier this year and featured a modern update to the classic look and feel of the show.  Click here to learn more about the revival and to read about what other classic and modern favorites will be joining the Challenge lineup through April.
