Weekend Replay: Dutch “Deal or No Deal”
I enjoyed NBC's version of Deal or No Deal for the first year or so, but the original is still the best. The original version, the Dutch Miljoenenjacht, celebrates its tenth year on the air this week, and it's easy to see why. The giant event caused by the five million euro giveaway and its limited run just twice a year makes it one of the best event programs I've seen. The show got its first ever major makeover for this season beginning on November 15th.

If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you know the Dutch Deal or No Deal hypothetical we gave out. For those who haven't seen when we've shown off their version, called Miljoenenjacht, it's to me the absolute perfect game show. You will have trouble convincing me that there's a better game show out there, let alone a better version of Deal. A 500 person audience is brought to one by some various trivia rounds. That person gets to play the famous briefcase game, treated more like a bonus round and sans Banker, for five million euro. They don't get sappy or emotional. They don't make players feel like crap with prove-outs. It's treated like what it is, a bonus round, and it's just simply the best version of the show. Very few have

I can't believe it's December already. What's more staggering is that this decade is almost up. So much happened and it's tough to compile it all. So for this month (in addition to everything else) we're just going to be looking through our archives and other places to find some of our favorite and most memorable moments and events of the past ten years and show them off. The game show that, out of no where, took the world by surprise was Deal or No Deal. I'm a big fan of just about every version but the American one which we have managed to get so wrong so often. But as a whole around the world it's a really remarkable format. It's almost crazy that no one has tried this exact format before, because it's something that basically any

OK, we got the introduction over with. Here are the really exciting parts. Here is part two of last Sunday's Dutch Deal or No Deal. I wouldn't put it up here if it wasn't an exciting/depressing/memorable/sad episode in some way, so it's definitely worth a look. The final part will be placed here soon. Usually we'd keep the video episodes under weekends, but this one's rather exciting so I had to put it up today. I've said it before, but my favorite version of Deal or No Deal is the original Dutch version Miljoenenjacht. It's such a massive event and spectacle that it's amazing to watch. This episode, from this Sunday, is particularly special. The show's really long so I cut out the quiz portion, but I can put it up later if you want. In the show, the 500 person audience competes in a quiz that reduces it to two members. At that point, they can take a bribe to leave the game or play one final question. The winner plays for five million euro. Here's the first part of the cases end game, again, from this past Sunday's episode. [s

We couldn't possibly end our custom Deal or No Deal world tour without going to where it all started, The Netherlands. It's arguably the most unique version of the show still existing and one of the few primetime versions of the shows not to sell out to the American way completely. The reason why their show is so amazing is because of the gigantic spectacle it is. A 500 person audience is narrowed down to six through an extensive quiz. The six come on stage and play another buzzer oriented trivia game which narrows it to two. The two have to fight over a buy-out to leave the game or play one final question. The sole survivor of the audience plays for 5,000,000 euro. The most money won was around 1.25 million euro, which I saw and was

The original version of Deal or No Deal, Miljoenenjacht, is returning to Dutch airwaves for a brief Spring run, likely either 6 or 7 weekly episodes. The hunt for a top prize of €5,000,000 will return on Sunday May 6, around 3:30 PM Eastern time. In the mean time, Tien's Sunday night fare (early Sunday afternoon in the States) is the original version of 1 vs. 100, a superior show named Eén tegen 100. You can watch a live stream of Tien's programming via their web site.

At the top of the show, the models come in a-la US Deal. After the 6 players for the final questioning round are chosen, there is a new question round that is a lot like the old Greed qualifier round. The person whose answer is farthest away is eliminated, unless somebody bails out. If somebody does bail, they pick one of the colored cases, which have varying consolation prizes in them. The question round with 2 people is the same as last season. Read on for spoilers on case play. (more...)

Miljoenenjacht ("Deal or No Deal" from Netherlands) finally has a few updates. First off, they updated their site. It only took them 3 or 4 years, eh? Second, it looks like they have some new shiny cases, as the first picture denotes. Third, the episode order has been extended to four episodes as of now, airing November 19th and every Sunday after that at 2:30PM ET, but this could change at any time. Be sure to check back here and watch what is, in my opinion, the best version of "Deal or No Deal" in the world.
