“The Singing Bee” Renewed for Third Season

I hope you all are enjoying your Thanksgiving weekend.  I wanted to give you a quick bit of news while I'm still away.  CMT's version of the karaoke game The Singing Bee has been picked for a third season.  Deadline Hollywood first reported the information.  The Singing Bee first aired on NBC in 2007, hosted by Joey Fatone.  CMT took the show over in 2009 where it has been hosted by Melissa Peterman.  This is the show's third season for CMT and its fourth season all together.  CMT's version retains the basic idea of the NBC version, where contestants have to guess the lyrics to popular songs.  Since CMT is country-focused they do roughly 60% country music and 40% popular music so anyone can get involved.  I know the show had a lot of fans around here so I'm guessing you're pretty happy about its pickup?

“The Singing Bee” is Coming Back Thumbnail

“The Singing Bee” is Coming Back

NBC's The Singing Bee really didn't last long.  It was an original concept that didn't really steal from Who Wants to be a Millionaire? like the more successful Deal or No Deal so of course it didn't last long because viewers weren't that interested.  Amazingly the show will be coming back soon, though.  Some casting notices went out and the show's website had some messages about it coming back.  We talked to our sources connected to the show and it is indeed returning with a new country flare which should be...entertaining? All that I was told is that the format is going to be tweaked and it'll be a country music edition taped for CMT.  CMT's been trying to get a game show for some time.  They tried Name That Tune, as did MTV and VH1, b

Two Quick News Items + BuzzerBlog News

Two quick news items and then an explanation for the lack of updates recently. *Following some rather crappy ratings recently, Singing Bee will be shelved in November and replaced by a two hour Biggest Loser. That coincidentally makes The Singing Bee the biggest loser, go figure. It's getting nearly lower than Identity level ratings which isn't a good sign. Who would have figured Don't Forget the Lyrics would keep its ratings while Singing Bee wouldn't. *Dennis Miller has signed on to host NBC's new game show Amnesia which will create yet another genre war with FOX's The Moment of Truth. Dennis Miller's most recent job was hosting GSN's Grand Slam which we really hope comes back. We don't get smart game shows often. And now wh

Massive Ratings Update

I went a bit lazy, but the ratings page has a massive update. The Singing Bee keeps slipping down, as it's now at 1 VS 100 new episode levels. However, Don't Forget the Lyrics! and Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? keep going up. Also, Without Prejudice? had a very strong debut, doing equally as well as GSN projected. GSN's ratings for June stayed basically the same, though. Syndicated ratings had barely any change as well. Click here for the page, or click the link in the top right corner, which is easier.

Joey Fatone to Host “The Singing Bee” Thumbnail

Joey Fatone to Host “The Singing Bee”

None of the writers decided to update today, so sorry for delays. According to TVWeek, NBC has supposedly chosen Joey Fatone, a former N'Snyc member, to host their karaoke game show The Singing Bee. In the show, contestants will have to sing to songs as the lyrics and music disappear. This news comes days after NBC rushed the show to July 10th after FOX announced their clear ripoff show, Don't Forget the Lyrics, was also rushed to air on July 11th. Whose Line is it Anyway? cast member Wayne Brady will host FOX's edition. Any thoughts on this host casting? I've stated my opinions about Wayne Brady, but I will admit he seems to have boat loads more charisma and charm than Joey Fatone does. Yes, he is a decent singer I suppose (I couldn

NBC Bumps “The Singing Bee” To July 10th Thumbnail

NBC Bumps “The Singing Bee” To July 10th

The karaoke wars are officially on. NBC served up a televised bitch slap to FOX by rushing their new singing show, The Singing Bee, to air on July 10th following America's Got Talent. No word on the host or top prize yet, but we're hearing you can win somewhere around $100,000 (at least on the pilot). Let's see the rules of both shows. The Singing Bee: Contestants hear the house band play a song. Lyrics will also appear on a screen. Contestants have to sing along. When the music stops and lyrics end, the contestants have to continue to sing. Each one right wins a prize.Don't Forget the Lyrics!: Contestants hear the house band play a song. “Deal or No Deal” and “1 VS 100″ Renewed + “Singing Bee”

Awesome news for Deal or No Deal fans and decent news for the 1 VS 100 crowd. NBC announced their Fall 2007 schedule and both Deal or No Deal and 1 VS 100 have been renewed, albeit 1 VS 100 does not have many episodes which is somewhat depressing. NBC is going back to two nights a week of new Deal or No Deal, keeping it in its Monday 8PM ET time slot and shoving it on Wednesdays at 8PM ET as well. 1 VS 100 will regain its Friday 8PM ET time slot it's deserved since Identity damaged our retinas. However, this is only for eight weeks. After that, NBC will debut its new game game The Singing Bee, where contestants will have to sing song lyrics as a band plays and continue to sing them even as the band stops.  This show has six episodes an
