Cat Deeley Guest Hosts “Millionaire” in February. Could She Be the New Host?
If you’ve been around this site since October 2008, you may remember a story we did about Cat Deeley. According to a UK rumor, So You think You Can Dance? host guest hosted a week of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and impressed ABC so much that she was offered the hosting gig of the long running game show entering its tenth year in America in August 2009. Of course we had no way of knowing if this is true because obviously ABC would never confirm current host Meredith Vieira leaving the show at that point, we had no way of knowing if Cat Deeley was offered it, or if she even guest hosted the show. We may be finding some truth to this rumor. According to several sources, Cat Deeley will be guest hosting the week of February 16th. She’s the first guest host of the season (correct me if I’m wrong). So here’s one part of the rumor being truthful. Anything else, though, we don’t know yet. So I’d be sure to check out the show the week of February 16th to see how she does. We may be seeing a lot more of her in the near future.
I could see this happening. She’s wonderful on SYTYCD and easily one of the Top 3 game/reality show presenters in the US so far.
I’ll try to keep an open mind, but while she may be a decent pop TV host (decent, NOT great), I can’t see her carrying a quiz show in the least.
She’s one of those names who keeps getting attached to projects without any true thought about whether she could cope with it or not. Is she really the kind of person who could ask questions about Morgan Tsvangirai and Rod Blagojevich?
Millionaire she might be able to manage, but I certainly know she’s been piloted for Saturday “party” kind of shows in the past (like Noel’s House Party) and it didn’t really work. She doesn’t have enough force of personality to drive the format along.
While I have Never seen Cat Deeley in any TV show,I had hoped that before Meredith left the show ,they could bring in Regis to host it once more ‘for old times sake”.He still has a loyal following and it would create a little excitement and some well-recieved pubilicity for the show.If Regis weren’t available,I would like to see Tom Bergeron become the permenent host if Meredith leaves.He was the best guest host the series has had to date.Funny,Quick-witted ,able to keep the game moving ,and an established Tv Host that also has loyal fans,Bergeron would make an ideal Millionaire host.
While Cat Deeley may be known in England,many people have no clue as to who she is.I’d rather the producers went with a well known US TV Host like Tom Bergeron.
while Tom would be an excellent choice, he’s already doing dancing with the stars and AFV and I hear he’s got a talk show somehwere as well so I doubt he could do it permenantly. That and ABC I hear has him on an exclusive contract, I heard they considered hima s Bob Barker’s successor on TPIR but that contract keptit from happening.
I’ve never actually seen any of Cat’s work so I’ll have to watch that week and judge accordingly.
I love Cat Deeley, I think she’s good on SYTYCD. Not sure about Millionaire, but I’d give her a shot!

If so,Who are they and when will they guest host?
I have a slight hunch that if this is true about her over-impressing Disney-ABC, that we might see a million dollar winner during her week of guest hosting.
According to Millionaire, over the next three weeks there are going to be three contestants who (at least) make it to the $500,000 question (easier questions this season, anyone?) and it would make sense, to me at least, that maybe the contestant that reaches that point during her time hosting may win the game for the first time in 6 years, and they were impressed with the way she handled it?
Just a hunch, but nothing is confirmed other than 3 people are guaranteed to reach the 14th question over the next 3 weeks. I personally don’t want to see Meredith leave the show, but if she wants to work with Journalism, then more power to her. If that’s the case I just hope Cat turns out to be decent and doesn’t destroy the show. I don’t really know anything about her other than what these articles say.
I just saw her first one, and as her people across the pond would say,
“She was bloody awful!!!” I will NOT watch anymore if she goes permanent and MV leaves.
Oh and yeah shes probably a replacement. Meredith is NOT on Vakay, they don’t tape the show 52 weeks a year, so she would schedule such an event during reruns not need a guest. Yep, she’s probably leaving.
Cat does not speak clearly and therefore would not make a good replacement for Viera. I think people would stop watching the show if Cat got the job.
Cat is awful! Where’s Meredith? I won’t watch if Vieira isn’t hosting. Sorry.
Cat is AWFUL!! On Monday she took FOREVER between questions… grimacing and tipping her head and wagging her eyebrows before she told the contestant she’d gotten the answer right. Gawd-awful. I’m done watching if she’s still there next Monday.
I honestly don’t care for Cat Deeley as the host of “Millionaire” and was hoping that she’s only filling in for the week for Meredith Vieira, who is phenomenal. Meredith is one of the reasons why I watch the show in the first place–I just love her! I, too, have a hard time understanding Cat (by the way, what’s the deal with the name?) at times, and her comments are often “off.” For instance, on today’s show after the contestant responded and said “final answer,” Cat asked, “Are you sure?” What does she mean is she sure? Of course she’s sure! Once you say final answer, that’s it. It was her attempt to playfully “rattle” her a bit (make her think that she had gotten it wrong), but it was obvious that the woman had to have had the right answer. I can’t wait until Meredith returns! I so hope she’ll be back on Monday!
