Carnie Wilson: Unstapled Debut Week Ratings Comparison
SECOND EDIT: After the break we have the comparisons for Hidden Agenda, like promised. It’s more brutal than Carnie Wilson. It’s downright ugly.
Edit: Fixed dates
Thanks to the great people at PIFeedback, we’ve got a comparison between Carnie Wilson: Unstapled in each of its time slots and the show that was there on the week of January 4th, the last published. If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter you saw that Carnie Wilson debuted to a .3 rating. We had messed up ratings we previously published, and we apologize. The .3 was correct, but we just wanted verification before we publish again. Aren’t you glad GSN replaced so many other shows, including completely axing some classics for all of you out there that like those older shows, for this? Unstapled dropped in every single time slot. Some slots it was in the hundreds of thousands lost. We’ll have a comparison for Hidden Agenda soon.
Look, I’m not trying to be an ass to GSN or Carnie. I like Carnie. I like some people there and I’m guessing there’s one or two left there that can tolerate me. But every single person, critic or fan, repeatedly warned you about these shows, how they did in the past, and why they would not work. And we were right. I didn’t figure we would be this right, but we were right. I heard from the same sources at the same place that gave me these ratings that the numbers tumbled in week two. What’s going to happen after that? I’d be reconsidering Life At Stake and the Bunco show. Your viewers have spoken. You do well in the game show department. That’s a clear fact. Catch 21 and Newlywed Game are fun and popular. Even the shows that were on the failed Big Saturday Night were really good, but just got messed up because of the programming. You can expand the brand to other games. We saw that during the rebranding a few years back. Solitary will be looking for a new home soon. The Poker and Blackjack shows were successes. This is not the way, though. History has shown that whenever we try to distance ourselves from the genre, we end up crawling back to it, clinging on to whatever viewers we can.

Doing my math, that's 3,653,000 viewers lost over a series of 19 shows for an average of 192,263 per show. Granted, that's less than a .1 rating, but considering GSN's high-numbered cable status that's a tough hit to take.
Aww, Alex… you read my column! But seriously…
You know, I don't like to see anyone lose their job, but seriously… how many times are you going to put your hand in the fire before you realize that fire hurts?
With BS(N) and now this… Someone needs to go. And quickly.

Wow! These ratings are horrible. I mean, you replace a recognizable rerun with something barely anybody wants to watch? Wow…real smart, GSN.
Wow.
I'll see the two "Wows" and raise you a HOLY (S-BOMB)!
Like I and others have said, if it didn't work with Naturally Stoned, why would it work with Unstapled? Clearly, history seems to be repeating itself.

As the movie's title said, 'reality bites!' When will GSN remember it's core audience and put GAME SHOWS back on the lineup? Carnie was good in Wilson Phillips, and (even though I never have watched it) is probably pretty good (but not as good as Bob Eubanks) on "The Newlywed Game" – keep her private life just that, or put it on VH-1, as she is known more as a music artist than a game show celebrity!

Wow… ratings are down at literally every time slot. Those numbers kinda speak for themselves. Remember, the network is GSN (Game Show Network), not GSRN (Game Show and Reality Network)! I hope some GSN people are reading this.
Also, stop showing DoND four hours a day. Two is sufficient, and give us some different game shows with the other two hours please.
Actually, that's close to a .2, but a solid .1.
I am surprised to see 1 vs. 100 (a re-run) is nearly pulling a .5 in primetime.

Holy s***!!! 7,871,000 less people for those time periods over the reruns normally in those slots? Have they really thought these things through before scheduling them or are they just throwing ideas up against the wall and seeing if something will stick? I mean, nothing's gonna stick if the ratings for everything else are subpar too. Remember when this network used to regularly get 0.7's in the neilsen ratings in the age of Russian Roulette and Cram? Remember when the Press Your Luck scandal documentary got about 1.2 in the ratings? GSN killed their network, and there's not way to bring it back.

Sounds like GSN has been alienating its core audience alright. They're not alone. Cartoon Network has been doing the same thing–and again, the problem has been reality shows. There is an old saying: "Shoemaker, stick to your last". If GSN does not stick to its last, we may live to see its finish!

Oh, my! Now that the Hidden Agenda numbers are posted, this one jumped out at me: Wed. 2:30 Chain Reaction slot lost 87% of its audience! I did not understand the logic in preempting every show down the schedule to shoehorn in Carnie/Agenda. THAT is no way to build an audience — by deceiving those who actually make your channel an appointment and pulling a switcho-changeo on them. We have seen the relentless promotion. We will watch if we want to.
41,000?! That's the population of a small town!

I didn't need the numbers to remind me, but there they were, as I expected. There's an old saying that goes "He who never learns fron their mistakes are doomed to repeat history" or something like that. GSN did it in 2003 or 2004 with Naturally Stoned & does it again in 2010 with Carnie/Hidden Agenda. I'd be interested to see what the Hub offers me. Untill then, it's syndie/CBS daytime & no GSN.

And GSN continues its' fall from grace. (Or is it rise to disgrace?)
In a fair and just organization, such a failure would lead to a couple of repeat offenders getting fired (I'm looking at you, David Fool's-Goldhill and Kelly No-Goode). Time to throw those bums out and replace them with someone better (preferably no one with NBC Universal credentials).

I truly don't forsee them "getting the message" until it's too late. If anything I expect they'll blame the poor ratings on "mean and nasty internet people who didn't give them a chance"

And yet, GSN is doing it anyway. Why? I don't know.

I doubt it. They've already cut some of their timeslots. What surprises me more is how much worse Hidden Agenda is doing than Unstapled. Even with the hidden camera business, I still consider it a game show, like Nickelodeon's You're On! and I thought it would have performed better.
