BuzzerUK: Classic Favorites “Play Your Cards Right” and “Blockbusters” Set to Return
Two formerly long running favorite game shows are set to make their return to the air in the United Kingdom. Both Blockbusters and Play Your Cards Right (Card Sharks in America) have previously been rumored to be coming back. Both have now been confirmed to be either casting or taping a pilot soon.
Blockbusters is currently casting contestants, and you can apply by clicking here. You must be 18 or over to play. For those that don’t remember Blockbusters is a quiz show where two people face off against one other for the chance to play the “Gold Run” end game for a bonus. It first aired in America in two short lived runs in the 80s but had a much longer and more successful run in England, airing from 1983 to 2001. No word on the network or host yet. We’ve got a good idea for a great host, though…
Play Your Cards Right needs an audience for their upcoming pilot. You can click here to get on the set. The show will be hosted by ABC’s Million Dollar Mind Game host Vernon Kay. The show, which ran sporadically from 1980 to 2003, is the English counterpart to the original American show Card Sharks. Teams answer questions and try to guess if the next card in their row is higher or lower than the last. Players who do the best can win big money and prizes.
Looking forward to either of these?

i was excited about play your cards right until it said Vernon kay was hosting that man is honestly annoying
True, but he’s very pretty so it kinda balances out in a superficial kind of way haha
Vernon isn’t a bad host on Million Dollar Mind Game.
I feel the same way Scott!!!! He is an excellent host on Million Dollar Mind Game.
Great news for the UK! I think GSN should also look into reviving these shows, as the classic versions have always done well for them. Just don’t screw with the formats like the 2001 version of Card Sharks did.
BlockBusters seemed a bit dry when I watched it, so I’m not sure how GSN would be able to liven it up if they revived it.
Get Carrie Ann Inaba to host. No longer dry.
I disagree. I saw here on 1 vs. 100 and all I could think was why is this tart hosting this show?
I’m just surprised that are looking for people over 18. All the clips of UK Blockbusters I’ve seen have features teenaged contestants.
Blockbusters and Card Sharks are due for revivals back in the US.
@CarShark THe 83-93 run and 2000 Sky One run featured 16-18 year olds, the 1997 BBC Two trainwreck featured adult contestants, including a younger Steven Merchant (known for his collabs with Ricky Gervais).
I’m glad that the UK is bringing those 2 back. I’d love to see Card Sharks & Blockbusters revived here in the USA. Also, love to have Challenge Network or an International GSN network for the USA to watch these great UK shows (& UK DOND).
Would love to see Concentration also revived. Great game show been off the air way too long!
Blockbusters is the kind of game show lovers’ wet dream revival that we’ll probably never see again in the U.S., although it is exactly the type of potentially low-budget original that ought to be a staple of the GSN schedule.
