Brutal Results on “The Price is Right” Showcase

The Price is Right isn’t exactly a hotbed of excitement and danger.  It’s usually just people winning a dining room or smiling when they lose.  Today, though, had probably one of the most painful and depressing moments I’ve ever seen on the show.  It came during the Showcase round, with contestant Jeffrey playing for a Porsche, an extremely expensive and rare prize for the show.  The usually groan-free happy show turned into face-covering depression as we saw the results.  Take a look.  I don’t think I’ve ever heard a reaction like that on Price from an audience, but it was needed.  What a brutal and heartbreaking outcome.

I saw this this morning, and I didn't even hear the audience reaction because I groaned like that, myself. I completely agree with the audience. That was heartbreaking!

I'm probably going to be the only person seeing it from this angle, but I LOVED that Joshua forgot that he won. You could tell that even he was pulling for Jeffrey to win. The results were devestating, yes, but Joshua's reaction really made me happy, to know that there was definitely some comeraderie going on there.

    That's very true. :)

Hey everyone, this is Joshua from today's show. I've been posting around here on-and-off, but I was surprised I was mentioned (even if in passing) here.

In response to steve's comment: During the stopdown before the reveal, they left the desk and chair and stuff on stage, so I knew I had a fat chance of winning with my kind of bid–I actually wanted Jeffrey to win the Double (and thought he had), if only for the fact that I can say that I lost to a DSW. But he and I were really so supportive of each other, 'cause we could see that each of us was equally as nervous as the next guy! And really, I could've cared less about which way the result went. I would've been happy either way.

I've seen closer, but not for a Porche! Very painful.

  • what's worse was Joshua was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO off! For the record, my guess was $59,000 for the Porsche.

Congrats to you, Josh. I can see why you reacted the way you did. I thought theat he was a DSW too(I would've said $55K on that showcase). Someone posted that he may've "killed himself" later on. Sounds stupid to me to do that after ovebidding by $198 like that. I mean, what gives?

I'm happy that Joshua was caught up in the letdown the way the entire audience was. I'm also happy the staff held off on playing the music for that long to feature the crowd reaction. Yowza.

Criticise the idea of adding "man prizes" (air combat school, ultimate garages, man walls) and dream cars, but this was one of those episodes that once people got hold of the dream-prize concept, it worked. If we had such drama on this show it just shows what happens. Drama like this isn't TPIR, but you could see what Drew envisioned — a dream car, someone going for the jugular, and just going over. In a strange way, we're going back to the original Bill Cullen show's lavish prizes. They're harder to win but once they're won it's pandemonium.

  • Netstryke says:

That had to have been the most painful moment to watch in the current Price era.
It was nice to see Joshua console Jeffery and it was nice to see the moment "sink in" before the dings and the theme.

The biggest TPiR moment of the season thus far.

  • Netstryke says:

I think Joshua was so caught up in the moment, he might've forgotten he won.

  • Darryl Heine says:

If he had bid $58,300, he would have been the first Double Showcase Winner of TPIR Season 38.

  • [...] for the prize, it was far and away one of the most exciting moments the show has had since the now infamous Double Overbid for a Viper. Take a look below.  Keep up these kind of cool prizes.  They are great and get a fantastic [...]
