One of my favorite shows of this decade is Dirty Rotten Cheater, which around fifteen people saw. I was pretty happy when I heard BBC was reviving the show, but a bit let down when I saw the final product. It seems like quite a step down from what we saw on PAX. I can stand a smaller budget, but it just didn’t seem to click this time. However, the game’s still pretty fun. Check out England’s take on our cult favorite.
We’ll be away for the next few days, so have a nice holiday weekend. I swear we’ll post news once some actually comes in. March has been a horrendously slow month.

I was one of that 15. I loved the show and still do. I agree the budget cut doesn’t seem to work for me as much. This was the one thing that PAX got right back then.

And I would be number two. Actually, do I want that title? Anyway, DRC was a fantastic show that was doomed by its existence on the pathetic PAX “network”. I’m not even going to bother checking out this BBC version because I don’t want my memories of the original version soiled by a watered-down version of it. But damn, DRC deserved better.

I loved its reverse family feud antics, the only problem with the show was the bonuses after each round, and how there never was an actual “Top Prize” (because if you were the cheater, you would lose half your money, the more you keep playing)
I wish GSN had the rights to create a new version of the game.

About two years ago, I saw Bil Dwyer as a panelist at J. Keith van Straaten’s What’s My Line? live show in LA. After the show, a number of Game Show Congress attendees talked with Dwyer on La Brea Ave. Most people talked with him about the then-new I’ve Got a Secret or Last Comic Standing. I told him his best work was on Dirty Rotten Cheater. He responded, “So YOU’RE the person who saw it!” DRC is the most underrated game this decade, IMO.

I’ve never seen DRC, Pax wasn’t and never has been availbale in my area and the only reason I know about supermarket sweep, shop ‘Til You drop and beat the clock is tape trades. but judging on clips I’ve seen DRC seems like weakest link meets reversed family feud (they even taped the US pilot on the weakest link set) and I like it. albeit, some flaws but nothing’s perfect
I agree Jordan it would be nice for GSN to do a revival. if it were my call, the money amounts would be: 3000-2000-1500-1000-750-500-400-300-200-100, after each round, regardless of whether or not the cheater was eliminated a new cheater is chosen at random (could by chance be the same person) if however, the cheater is eliminated everyone gets a bonus of $500 added to their score, if the cheater avoids being voted off he or she gets a $500 bonus. I’m assuming from the clip that 1,500 pounds is more or less an average win which makes me think if GSN followed my advice the average win would be between $4,000 and $5,000 which fits in perfectly with their budget and I’m sure Bill Dwyer would be available to reprise his role as host.
But yeah it’s too bad that DRC was on PAX a.k.a game show death central, PAX had good game shows for the most part: Supermarket Sweep, Beat The Clock, DRC, even Shop ‘Til you drop (under the Pat Finn format) wasn’t terrible.
one question though about DRC (since I’ve never seen a full ep. of the US show) I know you lose half you’re money if the cheater’s not found but what if you have a score ending in 25? do you go to a score ending in 13?

Marc, your answer is yes, in fact you could even split that in half for 08.
It’s very funny seeing people who could have won $16,000+ win $4108.
But the DRC amounts were the same as the UK (only multiply by 2.5) and also add 1 contestant.

Another of the 15 chiming in…the money is actually comparable ($250 vs 100 Pounds) but without bonuses; the tag line, “If you’re caught deceiving, you’ll end up leaving”, has its own charm, not unlike Roy Walker’s “Say what you see” from the UK version of CatchPhrase”; don’t know if anyone could redo this in the States unless Bil Dwyer was hosting…

I watched the original when it was on. The show never got a fair chance. But to be honest, this show wouldn’t work outside of us game show fanboys, it’s too complex for our “Deal or No Deal” country.

The pilot was better as it had less comedy and more on finding the Cheater…DRC was a great concept but the idea of Rigging being part of the game I’m sure scared off many people in Syndie land which led to it being stuck on PAX.
I like this version and the money doesnt bug me that much.
DRC Does need to make a comeback on GSN if they can get the rights…with the right people it could do well. The reverse FF Idea I ALWAYS liked as I always thought that was FF’s MAJOR drawback…the obvious answer is the most rewarded, DRC’s format made more sense…love to see it back.
