Marc is correct in the fact that Allen Ludden hosted a game show in the 50's-It just wasn't 'Password'.The show Allen hosted in 1959 was 'GE College Bowl".Also ,to correct another point in Marc's post-Bob Barker has hosted Game shows for 5 decades not 4.Bob Hosted 'Truth or Conquences " From 1956-1975.During 1972-1975 Barker was hosting 2 shows.
He Hosted the Price Is Right from 1972-2007.That's 51 years of being a Tv Host-a record that may never be broken.

Decades operate differently. The 00's run from 2000 to 2009. The 10's run from 2010 to 2019. Has nothing to do with centuries.

It’s great to see Bob Eubanks come out of retirement(?) to host the season finale. The Newlywed Game just isn’t The Newlywed Game without him hosting (even if it is just for one episode).

So much for trying to save problems without nitpickig, but I'll try again.

The 1980s include 1980 – 1989; so for Bob to get "5 consecutive decades", he would need 2000s (2000 – 2009), 1990s, 1980s, 1970s, 1960s.

Since this won't air until 2010, I'm thinking he won't have the consecutive mark, but will still have 5 DIFFERENT decades.

I was just trying to keep some sense of normalcy here to avoid the whole there was no year zero argument–really only wanted some perspective on a great accomplishment either way.

My main thoughts going into this was to clarify what was happening here from a historical standpoint, because it piques my curiosity about Monty Hall possibly already having the record with LMAD.

Way back when they had announced a second season of The Newlywed Game, I suggested that they bring Bob Eubanks back for one episode, if only to complete the "five consecutive decades hosting" chain.
Now to complicate things further, I'd imagine the Eubanks episode was either taped recently or will be soon. So, if it were taped in 2009 and aired in 2010 or (heaven forbid) 2011, would the streak still be intact (technically speaking)?

First, I suggested that they replace Jeff Davis with Wayne Brady for the new "Let's Make A Deal", now this. Man, I'm on a roll! (Okay, I'll admit my off-handed suggestions on a blog probably had little-to-nothing to do with influencing those changes, but it would be funny if, years from now, one of the producers of the two shows mentioned above said that a post on a widely-read blog influenced his/her decision.)

Technically, Wayne is correct. The 2010's decade starts in 2011. Keep in mind in calendar lore, there was a 1 B.C. to 1 A.D. How? There was no 'zero' (0) in between the years. So a century lasts 100 years as everyone knows (1-100) (first century) (101-200) (second century) and so on. So, January 1, 2001 was the beginning of the 21st century. December 31, 2000 was indeed the final day of the 20th century. So, Bob will do "The Newlywed Game" (for 1 episode) even if he's been doing it for five (5) decades at least. If he was asked in 2011, that would make it six (6) decades for the "whoopee master" if it happens.

First, I said Bob hosted at least one episode in each of the last 5 decades. It doesn't matter when it airs. My statement is correct.

Second, the 2010s start in 2010, not 2011. The 2000s do not end in 2010.

Will Bob get the "consecutive" mark? If that is for the last episode of the season, that should be 65 episodes = 13 weeks = 3 months = final episode in January, making it to air in 2010; so unless you use the technicality of the decade not starting until 2011, it doesn't happen (not trying to split hairs or nitpick, just trying to keep facts straight).

That being said, I'm really happy to see Bob back, I really am more bored when Carnie is hosting than anything else (sorry Alex, but I just don't see where she does the show any good) and we'll see how the master plays it.

that's a record btw, no one else has hosted the same format over 5 decades according to my info. I know Allen Ludden and Bob Barker have done it over 4 decades and in January Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek will reach the 4 decade mark. but I don't think anyone else made it to 5. Unless: you count the one segment of LMAD Monty Hall hosted in 2003.

Bob will have hosted at least one episode of The Newlywed Game in 5 consecutive decades. If there's a 3rd season, maybe Bob can return and make it a remarkable 6 consecutive decades.
