Bob Eubanks Returns to Host “The Newlywed Game” January 7th on GSN

Newlywed Game_Bob Eubanks_Carnie WilsonBob Eubanks, the original host of The Newlywed Game, is returning to the set once again.  GSN has invited Bob Eubanks to host a special celebrity edition of their hit game show on January 7th at 6:00PM ET and rerunning at 9:00PM ET.  This makes Bob Eubanks the first host in TV history to host the same show in five different decades.  Quite an accomplishment.

Bob’s original run of Newlywed Game aired from 1966 to 1974.  He also hosted from 1977 to 1980, then from 1985 to 1988, 1997 to 1999, and finally now in 2010.  He’s easily the reason this format stayed popular with so many people so it’s good to see him back.  I really don’t even care for the Newlywed Game format but I always enjoyed Bob.

Current host Carnie Wilson obviously won’t be hosting.  Instead she and her husband will be contestants, and her other family members will compete also.  Her opponents are her sister Wendy Wilson and husband Dan Knutson, as well as her mother Marilyn Wilson-Rutherford and her husband Daniel Rutherford.  They will be playing for charity, and if it’s anything like previous episodes it’ll be a $10,000 top prize.

Will any of you who normally don’t watch be tuning in just to see this special episode?  I think I’ll be one.  I really don’t watch the show (again, nothing personal, I just don’t care for relationship shows), but this will be an interesting and fun one to see.

Already marked it on the calendar. Throughout its existence (whether first run or rerun), I'll watch once in a while.

About the only relationship show I've watched with any regularity: "Bzzz!" The hostess, Annie Wood, was and still is easy on the eyes.

    Amen to that on Annie.

As for this one, I'll be watching. It's Bob, and it's The Newlywed Game. 'nuff said.

I'll watch because he's hosting, but I wish the "celebrities" were different. Carnie is creepy enough without hearing even MORE too much information from her. :o/ Seriously, her voyeur-ness is very unnecessary. And it's not even done in a playful or funny way – it's just creepy. I don't need to hear from her (especially in a deep voice while she's eyeing them up and down) how sexy or hot something is. I'd rather Bob Saget host, at least by now people know how creepy he can be. :) (I mean that as a compliment). I also wish they hadn't done away with the Goldyweds portion of the show…now when the losing contestants disappear you can't even see them wave. But, yeah, I'm much more inclined to watch.

I'll be watching this episode because Bob is back.I don't care for Carnie Wilson's hosting .Bob knows how to get the contestants to open up and make some funny comments .He was and still is a Master Emcee.

Absolutely! I'm sure he's just as thrilled to be back at home base. Nice move GSN…nice move. :)

  • Rodney says:

    Where did you hear that?

  • Myke25 says:

I had heard Monty would be a guest, not guest host. Am I crazy? (Wait…those two things are not mutually exclusive!)
Did anyone else hear that he would be hosting?

  • Craig says:

See, that's where the confusion is. Is he guest-hosting of JUST a guest? I think Wayne Brady is just asking Monty to appear as a guest, so technically, he'll not be hosting but rather making an appearance. As for # of decadws, it's an asthetics issue even I have trouble understanding sometines so, I'll leave it at that.

I will admit, I don't watch Carnie's version as much as I watched the Eubanks versions. But that's only because I don't have time to watch the show these days. I do like it, however. And to see Bob back on the show is cool.
