Before They Were Chasers: Shaun Wallace

This is the first of a three part series where I dig though the archives and show you game show footage from the past that feature the three current chasers on ITV’s hit game show, The Chase. The first part looks back at Shaun Wallace. Before he won Mastermind in 2004, he appeared as a team captain on Channel 5′s Greed (Gr££d) in 2001. For those who don’t know, Greed is based on the US format of the same name, in the UK it was hosted by Jerry Springer. The rules are exactly the same to the original US version but the top prize was £1 Million. The show lasted eleven episodes in 2001 (aired every Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week) before the axe fell. The video starts from the point the team (four members remaining) answered question five correctly for £100,000 with Shaun deciding whether him and his team should play for £250,000.

N.B. The quality is variable as it was taken from a VHS recording.

I am glad you did not try to edit this, as it may be rare.

Have seen Shawn on one of the “Final Chases”. If Kingsley Shacklebolt were a Death Eater. . .

FACT: When the four answers were selected for £250,000, Jerry went to a commercial break.

I have got that in the original VHS but felt it was best to remove it for the uploaded video.

  • Tataki says:

I… I can’t see it. But it seems James can see it? Hm…

  • James E. Parten says:

Yes, but you didn’t edit any of the actual gameplay. You even left in the Eliminator piece, even though Shawn Wallace did not have any direct part in it.

  • William Wade Jr says:

There was a FOX program with the same name and the same premise.

I would love to see this but can’t get the video working. Have you taken it down, Buzzerblog?

I was in the next team, all mic’d up in the green room and ready to go on as soon as Shawn’s team vacated the stage. We kept on getting messages that they were going on and on. Eventually when their time was up we got the message that there was no more time and as such we would not be appearing. This was the last show on the first run.We were informed we would be first up should another series be commissioned. It never was. We all trooped back to the bar for a complementary drink where, crestfallen, I led the singsong. It was the start of my love of TV quiz and I have gone on to win on 5 shows. It is great to see this footage , many thanks to Travis for submitting it.
