Posted by Alex Davis as CBS, Host, Schedule Change, The Price is Right
Three items of news regarding The Price is Right. Variety has stated the final episode will air twice on June 15th. It will air in its normal 11AM ET slot as well as 8PM ET. The episode is said to tape June 6th. The show will rerun episodes featuring Bob Barker all summer. Also, two people are now out of the running to take over the hosting position. Mario Lopez has dropped out, according to USAToday, saying that he is too busy. According to audience members of The View, Rosie O’Donnell said she is dropping her campaign to take over. Audience members stated she wanted to make too many changes, including male models, which did not go over well. Too many updates don’t work.

Lopez is too busy doing what…auditioning. Screw him, teacher lover!
Plus, why would an angry gay person want Male models on the show?? I only fear what some of the other chances she would have made, which of course- would ruin a beloved classic.

I had a feeling Rosie would attempt to ruin the show. Mario… just doesnt fit. I honestly cannot picture him hosting it. This is The Price is Right and they need a game show host with years of experience. John O’Hurley and Todd Newton are still my top pics.

Any news on John O Hurley? I think he would make an excellent host

He most certainly would.
But would he, or more to the point, could he hand both Goodson staples at once?

Well, I hope somebody like Newton or Davidson will make it. When are we going to find out about the new host?

Those two were never candidates in my mind, to begin with, anyway…
O’Hurley and Davidson, of the candidates remaining, are my top picks. If Marc Summers was still a possibility, he’d still be my number 1 pick…

I would take Mario Lopez hosting the Price Is Right over Rosie. but my number one choice for the price is right is Todd Newton and then Marc Summers, John O Hurley, Doug Davidson or even Mark L. Walberg.

Rosie would definitely turn TPIR into a train wreck. Her changes would cause TPIR to go off in no time.
My choice to takeover is Todd Newton. He knows TPIR cold, having done it at Harrah’s Reno and Tahoe.

I think Rosie O’Donnell wanted male models so as to reverse the bias between the sexes. Usually it’s the men who host and women who serve as little more than decoration, and I don’t approve of such rigid roles. First I heard of her hosting. I thought she would keep flinging Kooshballs into the audience and bursting into TV themes. Mario Lopez, I think he was a lousy version of J. D. Roth. Whereas J. D. tried to hard to be hip, Mario seemed to have no personality at all.

Cripes, Rosie would probably find something to bitch about in each contestant and turn the show into some form of controversy. I could not be happier to hear she is out. I would have never watched Price again if she was named host. As for Lopez - no big loss, didn’t make my short list anyways. I still enjoy O’Hurley and a enjoy the thought of him hosting.

It’s good that Mario Lopez has other things on his plate because he probably failed the audition. At least, that’s a possible explanation

If Rosie became host of TPiR, all hell would break loose. She’d spend half the show yelling about politics and the other half trying to make out with Barker’s Beauties. Well, maybe not. However, she might attempt to make the show an extension of her talk show from long ago. The only way this show would stay for at least another 5 years would be if somebody like Newton or Davidson became host. Todd did the DVD game and Doug did a syndicated version. We need Newton or Davidson. O’Donnell would be the iceberg of this Titanic of a show.
Well, you get my drift.

If Todd can dial down the exhuberance from “Whammy,” he’d do a great job as host of TPIR, but my first choice is still John O’Hurley. He has the same mature class that Barker brought to the show to please the older ladies at the core of TPIR’s audience and he would be familiar to the college kids from his Seinfeld days. And he’s funny.
As for Rosie…take another long hiatus from TV, would ya? You’re giving us liberals a bad name.

I agree about Todd. He seemed to be toned down in the DVD game. But Doug had it going on! He could have developed into a brilliant host if he only had a chance. I bet Bob was the same way for the first few months of the show.

1. John O’ Hurley
2. Todd Newton
3. Mark L. Walberg
But then again, who would go to Feud if John finds that its too much.

I guess you must like O’Hurley for this show the same way I like Forsyth for SMTM. Well, my choices would be:
1. Doug Davidson
2. Todd Newton
3. anybody except Ricki Lake & Rosie O’Donnell

Anyone want to consider Pat Finn? I think he would work well here.
Greg
19May 24th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Yeah, and I suppose he’ll want to send one lucky person on a dream vacation… “To where, Dee?” Either that or his wife Erin will become a “Finn’s Fantasy” and his in-law Jim “SOTC” Perry will make a guest appearance. If you’re going to suggest Finn, how about Jim Perry?

What about Tom Bergeron or Danny Bonaduce if they want to be last minute candidates to take over Bob Barker’s TPIR job. If the announcement is not made TPIR Season 36 won’t start until October (remember TPIR Season 29 started that month in 2000?) or November!
Greg
22May 25th, 2007 at 9:54 am
If Tom Bergeron becomes host of TPIR, he might come into conflict with ABC (he still hosts AFV). Besides, if he was host, who would take over AFV? Bob Saget?
Actually, Saget hosting AFV again wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Breaking News from GSNN:
Here’s a scoop from Bob Barker: He hopes they never find someone to replace him on The Price is Right.
“That way they’ll continue to use reruns and I’ll get paid for every one of them,” said Barker, whose final new broadcast as host of The Price is Right will air on June 15 (CBS, CH in Canada).
Barker claimed to be totally uninvolved in the hunt for a new host, at least in any official capacity.
“I haven’t asked to be involved and they have not asked for my advice,” Barker said.
“But they have auditioned at least a half-dozen, maybe more, and now they’re looking at another one at least.”

At least Rosie O’Donnell isn’t in the running. I can imagine the shitty prizes that they’d have if she were hosting. ACLU memberships, Karaoke machines that play nothing but showtunes, one-year paid legal fees if you’re gay and want to adopt. Only contestants from ‘blue states’ would be allowed to participate.
Not to mention the insane left-wing rants that she’d manage to insert.
Rosie: So Tim, where are you from.
Tim: Texas.
Rosie: Voted for Bush, didn’t you?
Tim: Yes. Yes I did. Are we going to play a pricing game or what?
Rosie: Get off my stage you bigoted homophobe!
I’m still routing for O’Hurley. I don’t know what that would do to family feud and really don’t care. If not O’Hurley, then George Hamilton.

But Bob Saget has a contract to do 1 VS. 100 for NBC so he is not a perfect TPIR replacement for Bob Barker.
Another TPIR replacement candidate for Bob Barker could be Donny Osmond.

What about Ryan Seacrest or William Shatner or Marc Summers or Rick Dees or current TPIR announcer Rich Fields to be Bob Barker’s TPIR successor?
Greg
28May 25th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Ryan is with Idol, Marc has Unwrapped, I’ve never heard of Rick Dees, and William Shatner would try doing Capt. Kirk impressions all the time.
Another nightmare with Rosie:
Rich: And now, here’s the new star (under his breath: Heaven help us) ROSIE OOOOOOOO’DONNELLLLLLLLLL!
[Rosie walks out and instantly tries making out with a Barker's Beauty]
Rich: OMG! OMG!
Rosie: I prefer to make love, not war!
Rich: And that’s just what you’re doing, Rosie. Besides, you’re married!
Rosie: I don’t mind giving out free love! I feel all sexed up and ready to go!
[Bob Barker stands up.]
Bob: What in tarnation are you doing to my show?
Rosie: Shut up, old man! I’m making love!
Bob: Oh the humanity! The humanity!
Amen!

You wanna know what’s funny? Rosie would tounge kiss the models.
How about a soap star? I have a few:
Doug Davidson ( The Young and the Restless)
Ronn Moss (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Grant Aleksander (formerly Guiding Light)
Kristoff St. John (The Young and the Restless)
as for Rosie! Kiss my ass!

You didn’t mention for soap stars Stuart Damon or Shemar “The streak is over, Susan Lucci” Moore!
Also: Is there a rumor CBS in Fall 2007 may pull the plug on The Price is Right after 35 years in favor of a new daytime network talk show with Rosie ‘O Donnell to go head to head with the show she just quit - The View?

For the record, Rick Dees is a disc jockey who hosts the radio countdown show “The Weekly Top 40″ on many radio stations - Web site is http://www.rick.com, “The Rick Dees Weekly Top 40″ is a rival show to Ryan “American Idol” Seacrest’s “American Top 40″ (originally hosted by Casey Kasem 1970-1988 and 1998-2004, Casey still does “American Top 10″ for AC radio stations and “American Top 20″ for Hot AC radio stations; and Shadoe “Hollywood Squares with John Davidson” Stevens from 1988-1994, by the way, why couldn’t Shadoe Stevens be another TPIR Bob Barker replacement since his last announcing duties was during a Tom Bergeron Hollywood Squares Game Show Week in 2003?)
I still hope Rick Dees gets Bob Barker’s TPIR job before Rosie chews out TPIR with CBS or something like that.
Greg

I would pick Doug Davidson out of the soap list. He hosted a 1994 syndicated version of TPIR. If this show was canceled for a talk show starring Rosie, I don’t think I would ever watch CBS daytime again!

John O’Hurley’s option was not picked up, so he’s out of the running. The supposed final three are Todd Newton, Mark Steines and George Hamilton, but there could be a wild card in play. If so, my money is on Rich to play the dark horse

Out of all the hosts who are trying to replace Bob Barker, the ones I really like are Mark Steins, Todd Newton, and John O’Hurley. Even if one of them took over, I will still miss Bob Barker. But if it’s one of those guys I mentioned, I will still continue to watch.
