Barker Says He Didn’t Endorse Rosie

I seriously can’t wait until the new season of The Price is Right starts so we don’t have to write about the host debacle anymore. If you read a few posts ago, Bob Barker apparently endorsed Rosie O’Donnell to be the next host of The Price is Right. Just kidding! Barker is now saying that he didn’t endorse Rosie at all. “I have not been asked for my opinion, nor have I expressed one,” Barker said. “I think there are several candidates who could do the show, and Rosie is certainly one of them.” Barker stressed Wednesday that he never meant to imply she was his top pick to replace him. It would be “terribly presumptuous,” he added, to assume he would have any impact on the host selection. OK, I think it’s now time to break a happy pill in Uncle Bob’s coffee and put him in the corner for a few days.

There are apparently two more candidates to host The Price is Right as well: Ian Ziering, from Beverly Hills 90210 and The Drew Carey Show star/Whose Line is it Anyway host Drew Carey. I have never seen Ziering in my life, so I have no opinion about him. Maybe this whole hoopla has made my senses die, but I don’t think Drew Carey would be a horrible fit. He’s a lot better than 90% of the candidates they’ve tried so far. According to AP, hosts still in the running are Todd Newton, Mark Steines, George Hamilton, and (our official pick) John O’Hurley who began taping a new season of Family Feud today.

anyone see conan o’brien a few nights ago? he mentioned rosie on tpir, and the audience booed. “hey, don’t shoot the messenger!” i had to laugh about that.

  • Greg says:

So we got all upset over nothing? I’m glad that was just a joke.

  • Alex Davis says:

This is in response to Steve. I saw that same thing. I laughed a bit at that as well.

  • Eric says:

I can also see Drew hosting TPiR. The power of 10 is a CBS show right? Ian not so much.

  • Wheelloon says:

So Drew is in the running now. Well, I can’t complain about this rumor. :D

From the beginning of all this, Drew Carey was one of my “sorta out in left field, but could definitely do it” candidates, and I’m happy to hear he is being considered. He has prior TV experience both in and out of game shows, the right demeanor and personality to interact with contestants, and the ability to play up drama when needed.

He also, I think, has the name recognition and established fanbase that would have viewers continue to tune in to TPIR, and not cause a literal “fallout” at the start of next season, which most people are predicting will happen…

  • Sam J. says:

Drew Carey strikes me as a bit too ego-centric and laid-back to host a true game show, IMHO, especially one as contestant-oriented and rigidly structured as Price. Then again, that’s based solely on his hosting of “Whose Line is it Anyway?” so it may be inaccurate–I guess we’ll wait and see how he does on “Power of 10.”

As for Ziering…well, I know virtually nothing about him, but perhaps it would mean the return of his wife Nikki as a model?

  • Andy says:

Wait and see how Drew Carey does with “Power of 10″. I’m not sure if we want to Drew Carey doing two gameshows.

  • Andy says:

Check out ‘Millonare’ guest host Tim Vincent. He might become another contender.

  • Mike says:

    Andy,

Can you stop with the damn hypothesizing about who’ll replace Barker? Every idea you’ve had has been ridiculous. I’ll help you get it out of your system–Billy Bush, Judge Joe Brown, Michael Bloomberg, your 8th grade art teacher, Lassie, Thomas Jefferson, the tooth fairy. There. Now you don’t have to randomly throw out idiotic names for TPiR hosts ever again.

  • Stephanie says:

I think the Powers That Be are missing the whole point: they should be finding a capable, charismatic person who can keep the show going for years to come – yet instead they’re practically drawing names out of a hat and tossing out big names to keep us talking. It’s getting insane!

A Tampa radio host put one of my top picks into perspective, have a look at this video to see what I mean:

    Mike,

Don’t forget Triumph the Insult Comic Dog!

  • Mike says:

Love it, love it. The whole “…for me to poop on” line would lose its punch after a while. Watching Triumph struggle through the spayed and neutered lines would also get bland after the first week.

Bob has nothing on Triumph. While Bob may have done some inappropriate touching, Triumph has a guy’s hand up his butt.
