Update on the home game front

1a. This might quell the cancellation rumors of 1 vs. 100. A new 1 vs. 100 jigsaw puzzle/game is available in stores. (I will let the idea of a game show jigsaw puzzle soak into your head.) Since I got my federal tax refund last night, I decided to spend $10 on the puzzle. I found mine at a local Toys 'R Us. There are 100 pieces to the puzzle, and each piece has a perforated circle with a number from 1 to 100....so that would make 200 pieces. The idea is to put the puzzle together and play 1 vs. 100 with the puzzle. For each right answer, you remove certain numbers from the puzzle. After 15 or so questions, you eliminate everybody and win. It's different. University Games deserves an A for effort. A jigsaw puzzle?! 1b. While

Buena Fortuna–big oops!

Earlier this month, I mentioned that Buena Fortuna would premiere today at 2 PM Eastern. My digital cable box and TiVo both had 2 PM as the air time. They're both wrong. Telemundo's site says Buena Fortuna airs at 1 PM Eastern weekdays. Here's the show's official site en Espanol. If you didn't take Spanish in high school, Babelfish can give you a rough English translation. With any luck, a recap of Buena Fortuna will be posted on this very blog tomorrow night. In other Telemundo news, Vas o No Vas, the Spanish-language version of Deal or No Deal, has moved from 9 or 9:30 PM Eastern on Sunday nights to 7 PM Eastern on Saturday nights.

Coming soon to Telemundo: Buena Fortuna

During last night's airing of Vas o No Vas on Telemundo, several ads for Buena Fortuna were shown. Based on what I saw, the game will likely be similar to this version. My TiVo shows that the hour-long Buena Fortuna will premiere on Monday, January 15 at 2 PM Eastern and will air in that time slot for at least the remainder of that week.

John O’Hurley, best-selling author

For those who don't know, John O'Hurley has written an anecdotal book about dogs titled It's Okay to Miss the Bed on the First Jump: And Other Life Lessons I Learned from Dogs. The book has been out for less than 3 weeks and is almost on the verge of cracking Amazon's top 100 selling books (at #119 as of this post). O'Hurley mentioned that his book is either #18 or #16 on a best-selling list. I don't recall if O'Hurley said it was the New York Times list or another one. To promote the book, O'Hurley's on a book signing tour. O'Hurley has been in several cities including Providence, RI; Lexington, KY; and last night in Harrisburg, PA. (Sorry if you're in or near one of those cities.) From the Upcoming Celebrity Book Signings and Eve

Fremantle reviving Child’s Play

The Craig's List game show posting du jour is a casting call for 6 to 10-year-olds for a revival of 1982-3 CBS show Child's Play.  Tara Reid was on the original Child's Play.  And what caring parent doesn't want their kid to be the next Tara Reid? More details are available at the aforementioned link.  The reply address is to a Fremantle Media e-mail address.  At least this looks more legit than the casting calls with reply addresses ending in yahoo.com or gmail.com.

RECAP: Vas o No Vas, 10/9/2006

Beatriz Castro of Los Angeles is the first qualifier tonight.  Qualifier #2 is Esli Gonzalez of San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Esli gets the first question in the qualifier, but Beatriz storms back with the last two, earning her a chance at $250,000.  But first, "La Tentacion".  Beatriz passes on the temptation.  Is it another truck?  No!  The temptation is a trip to Cabo San Lucas.  Will we see it three more times like last night?  Stick around. Beatriz takes case 17 as her own.  Does it contain a quarter million dollars?  There's only one way to find out...and the way to find out here is by clicking the link below.

RECAP: Vas o No Vas, 10/8/2006

Host: Hector Sandarti Network: Telemundo Vas o No Vas is similar to a little game which is quite popular right now called "Deal or No Deal". There are some small twists, the first of which is three qualifier questions. The fastest person in gets rung on a cell phone. This happens twice, to determine finalists. Since I don't know Spanish, I won't attempt to give the questions. In the first qualifier, Fernando Mahaluf of Las Vegas was the winner. For qualifier #2, the winner was Ralph Gonzalez of New York City. The two gentlemen competed in a final round, where whomever got two questions right first plays for the big bucks. Fernando got the first two questions correct, giving the chance at a quarter million dollars...but first, a temptation (La Tentacion) in the form of a Ford truck. Fernando says "no vas" on the truck. (I guess if Fernando took the truck, Ralph would play. Instead, Fernando plays.) After the models do their thing, it's time for Fernando to pick a case. He chooses #12. The rounds are similar to the NBC version--6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 for every round after the fifth. The layout of the board is similar to the NBC version but with lower stakes: $0.01 // $0.25 // $1 // $5 // $10 // $25 // $50 // $75 // $100 // $200 // $300 // $400 // $500 // $1000 // $1250 // $2500 // $5000 // $7500 // $10,000 // $20,000 // $30,000 // $40,000 // $50,000 // $100,000 // $125,000 // $250,000 Game play results and super small vidgrabs from the show are under the cut.

RECAP (sorta): “Make Me Famous, Make Me Rich” 10/7/2006 Thumbnail

RECAP (sorta): “Make Me Famous, Make Me Rich” 10/7/2006

(Note: This will not be a regular feature. I want to bring attention to this new offering in the Buckeye State and to show how it's played.) Host: David McCreary (cut from the same cloth as Dylan Lane) There are 31 contestants each week--1 returning champion and 30 new players. To start, 15 of the 30 new contestants play. They're broken into five teams of three players. As is the case with every lottery game, the object is to attain the most cash. In this game, it's done on two separate boards each with 20 squares. A team is chosen at random. Each team's members vote to play the safe board (less money and less zero values) or to take the risk (5 of 20 squares have zeroes to start, but the money is larger). The middle player of the team hits a spin button. The board "spins" and chooses a random value from whichever board is chosen. The dollar amount is added to the team's total. Another random team is chosen to participate. This continues until all the teams have played a round. In rounds 2 and 3, the money values go up on both boards, as do the number of zero values. Whichever team has more money after 3 rounds advances and splits their winnings three ways. A second game with the 15 remaining new players is done. Every contestant is guaranteed $1000. The six winning team members from the first two games each choose a card from a set of six. Four of the cards are worth nothing. One card is worth $5000. The other is worth $10,000. Each player picks one of the numbers and has the opportunity to steal cards from other players. The $5000 card is revealed. Each player has the opportunity to keep their card or swap it with a random card, including possibly the $5000 card. After the round of swapping, the holder of the $5000 card can either leave the game with the $5000 or steal someone's card. The person whose card is taken in the swap receives $2500, and $2500 is added to an Extended Play jackpot. (Extended Play tickets are $2 instant tickets, versus regular tickets which are $1.) The people who have nothing are revealed randomly one-by-one. The $10,000 holder advances to play the champ for $50,000. The end game has the champ and the last survivor of the 30 new players picking balls from a container. There are 10 balls--7 red, 2 white, and 1 green. Whomever picks either a white or green ball first wins $50,000. If the green ball is picked and that player got on the show via an Extended Play ticket, that person wins $50,000 plus whatever is in the aforementioned Extended Play jackpot. The returning champ is given the opportunity to pick first or second. From there, the players continue picking balls until a winning ball is pulled. There is no limit on how long someone can be on the show. For those who care, your first winner is a gentleman named Adam from Twinsburg. Adam won $63,116 and will return next Saturday to pick more balls and defend his title. Images from this new offering can be found by clicking the link below.
