REVIEW: Ludia’s “The Price is Right”

Do you remember when we talked about a “Price” PC game in development? Well, after a long wait, it has been released to the public.

I must say, it’s pretty good. Graphics are good-looking,

There’s only a couple of minor issues. First, the prizes are video clips from actual aired shows, so there’s a very small chance that somebody playing may have that episode on tape, and can then guess the ARP exactly. Second, it would be nice to have keyboard support for typing in bids. Clicking on “hidden arrows” up and down gets the job done, but it’s not the way the average user would expect to enter numbers on a PC game.

The complete list of pricing games:

  • 3 Strikes
  • Bonkers
  • Check-Out
  • Cliffhangers
  • Flip Flop
  • Freeze Frame
  • Hole in One (or Two)
  • It’s in the Bag
  • Master Key
  • Money Game
  • Plinko
  • Punch-A-Bunch
  • Push Over
  • Race Game
  • Range Game
  • Shell Game

Overall, I give the game 4/5. Try it out first, then buy it if you like it. I certainly did. :-DLudia’s “The Price is Right” software is available as a 30-minute free trial or as a $19.99 purchase (plus applicable sales tax). Download it here.

As a tip: You can skip through Rich’s explanation of Contestant’s Row, the pricing games, etc., by clicking anywhere in the main portion of the screen. However, you cannot skip through prize descriptions (unless you bid on the first showcase, which will then produce a “Skip” button to click on during the second).

Two Quick News Items + BuzzerBlog News

Two quick news items and then an explanation for the lack of updates recently.

*Following some rather crappy ratings recently, Singing Bee will be shelved in November and replaced by a two hour Biggest Loser. That coincidentally makes The Singing Bee the biggest loser, go figure. It’s getting nearly lower than Identity level ratings which isn’t a good sign. Who would have figured Don’t Forget the Lyrics would keep its ratings while Singing Bee wouldn’t.

*Dennis Miller has signed on to host NBC’s new game show Amnesia which will create yet another genre war with FOX’s The Moment of Truth. Dennis Miller’s most recent job was hosting GSN’s Grand Slam which we really hope comes back. We don’t get smart game shows often.

And now why there have been a lack of updates. I’ve been active in television for a bit, working on stuff like Game Show Marathon and others. I decided to take control of things this time and pitch my own show with the help of some very talented people. I’ll be gone tomorrow through Saturday pitching a concept to a very respectable company. We’re going to have a BuzzerVision video of Who Wants to be a Millionaire sometime this week hopefully for certain reasons, but if you are wanting some great game show news while we’re away I strongly suggest GSNN. When we come back, I’ll tell you of my experience. I’m not really looking for a ton of “good lucks” and that kind of thing, but I just felt like I owed you all an explanation of what’s been going on. We’re usually extremely dependable for updates and the whole pitch thing has been crazy for the past three weeks. We’ll get started as soon as we can again and hopefully we’ll have some fun stories of the pitch.

BREAKING NEWS: WILLIAM SHATNER TO HOST “SHOW ME THE MONEY”

ABC is yet again using one of their network’s stars to do the hosting of shows.  William Shatner, who was recently roasted on Comedy Central, will be the host of the new game show “Show Me the Money”.  In the game, contestants will have to answer trivia questions and be lucky while picking “scrolls”.  Getting an answer right will multiply your bank roll by what is on the scroll.  However, one wrong answer and you will be divided by what’s on it, possibly losing millions.  No premiere date has been set, but seven episodes have been ordered.

Here’s the only thing that scares me.  I like the idea of the game, but even FOX turned it down.  Is it that bad and ABC is dumb for picking it up, or is FOX stupid?  I’d go with FOX being stupid if ABC didn’t get rid of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”, so it’s all up in the air now.

Welcome to the new BuzzerBlog!

I’d like to welcome everyone to the new BuzzerBlog.com. It’s been a long and strange journey so far, but we are very happy with what we have here. More than anything, we are just happy to be off of Blogger. Nothing, content wise, has changed from the old site, but we have added two new features. One is for you, our readers, to submit your own articles that we can publish, and another is for the results of that day’s TV game shows. If you would like to help out with either, please email us at buzzerblog@flashgameshows.com. This page is still developing, and you may see changes every now and then (like a minorly updated logo), but we are about 95% done. Right now, we’re just trying to figure out how to add images to posts. We also tried to import as much of the archives as we could, but some of the more recent stuff has been lost. Give us a bit of time, and please continue reading BuzzerBlog. I thank you for your time with us, and hope you enjoy our new site.

By the way, the Site Navigation is in the right hand box. Updates will begin TOMORROW with a video preview, from NBC, of “1 vs. 100″, starring Bob Saget and no ponies, thank jesus.  Our new site makes it much easier to delete those “special” comments we’ve been getting recently.
