Australia to get “The Rich List”

Andrew O'KeefeThis is somewhat of a surprise. The Rich List, based on the UK rules, is now headed to Australia. Andrew O’Keefe, the host of Aussie Deal or No Deal, is slated to host. Taping starts the week of December 11th in South Melbourne.

No word yet on other specifics.

Geez, some life for The Rich List. I hope Seven Network gets ratings good enough for Fox to give our version another chance and realize the gold mine that they’re sitting on. Maybe Fox gave tRL a bad time slot because of a possibility that maybe a champion team stayed on for Four weeks in a row.

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but what are the rules for the UK version? AFKIK there was only a pilot episode done in the UK. I hope the Australian version is successful enough for an American channel to give it another chance, since the basic premise is interesting even though the execution was awful…

I think that this show would have done better on NBC, ABC or CBS. Fox seems to cancel all good game shows Greed, it’s your chance of a lifetime and the rich list all three good game shows in my opinion. NBC is looking to get more game shows why not pick up the rich list and put it in a decent time slot. imagine if the biggest loser when its goes off and if nbc picked up the rich list and put it at 7:00 central time. putting deal or no deal at 8 and medium at 9. I realize it would have to go up against american idol but still looking at deal or no deal last year on wed even though it didn’t beat american idol it still did alright. or how about this idea. NBC tries a week long stunt of the rich list and then picks one or two nights and puts it on as a weekly series.

Well, if you really thought the Rich List should’ve been given the chance it rightfully deserves, why don’t either write to Fox or create on Online petition to get it back on the air.

Well I am hoping it goes a whole better here in Australia than elsewhere, because I was on the very first show, became the first champion (with my partner) and managed to win $75,000 (of course I don’t get to see any until it goes to air… the good new is that 7 I have been told is already previewing it for their 07 lineup.)

Sadly, we were knocked out at the tiebreak stage of the next show, but what a thrill. I think the game is a good format, too. Cheers.

May I ask why Australia’s 7 network sees this show as a hit, while FOX here in the US saw this show as a trainwreck waiting to happen?

I guess cos the’ve got a provn host in Andrew O’Keefe (who already hosts Deal or No Deal and is a runaway success). ..and… well, I don’t know really, I think it’s a good format and has the hallmarks of a big, budget winner about it from my perspective. Good, attainable dollars to be won. The team aspect has more charm to it than one solo contestant. But who knows?

I think Fox’s choice in compere was absolutely flawed - a thick Irish accent is not be a good common denominator with American audiences. Most I think would not have understood the guy!

The same production company that paved the way for Deals’ success across the world is also doing Rich ist, so their pedigree is a good one and they are obviously tight with Network 7 in Australia. I think it stands a better than average chance…(or at least have the first one go to air so I can get my money!!)

    Cheers.

Or maybe was it because, and I’m only speculating, Ray and Bill, who won both games on the first episode probably lasted into a fourth or fifth episode? That could’ve happened. Either way FOX STINKS!
