Aussie 1 VS 100’s Eddie McGuire Resigns as Nine’s Chief

Bloomberg has announced that the host of the Australian version of 1 VS 100, Eddie McGuire, has resigned from his position of chief executive officer of Australian network Nine.  Nine is set to lose its title as the most watched network to Seven partly because of their Dancing With the Stars and Desperate Housewives.  McGuire currently hosts 1 VS 100 which is Nine’s most popular show and Australia’s 14th most popular show.  Before becoming chief executive officer he was the host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire which is rumored to be coming back sometime later this year.  McGuire is expected to play a bigger on air role than he previously did.

Is this supposed to mean Eddie McGuire can spend more time with game shows and less time with Nine? Awesome!

Surely that little Deal show is helping Seven just a smidge, albeit in an afternoon/pre-nightly news role…

If Seven is supposed to be Australia’s answer to NBC, then they’re doing all right with DoND. Nine, who I bet is still using that ridiculous “Still the One” slogan for almost 30 years now, might pay off with “National Bingo Night” (Nine is almost ABC Down Under, right?). Ten (or CBS AU) is doing OK now. But think about it. Seven has copied graphics packages and slogans from NBC for years in the 80s. Now they have some of NBC’s programming! Will it ever end?
