Scott,

A lot of Google news links say that Patrick himself has said he's not interested in the TPiR job. I think he's too dry. One ex-ESPNer I think would do a good job is Keith Olbermann. However, he's not doing too badly with his little show on MSNBC.

Saw this in Variety today -- Could Dan Patrick be available in time? He wants to try "something different" ...

Patrick exits ESPN's 'SportsCenter'
Longtime anchor’s final show set for Aug. 17

By JOHN DEMPSEY

Saying he wants to "try something different," Dan Patrick has resigned from ESPN after 18 years as an anchor of "SportsCenter."
Most recently, Patrick was host of "NBA Countdown," the studio program preceding pro-basketball games on ABC, including the primetime NBA Finals.

Patrick has also hosted ESPN Radio's "Dan Patrick Show" since 1999. Patrick will devote his last radio broadcast, scheduled for Aug. 17, to reflecting on the show's most memorable segments.

In a statement, Patrick said, "I've spent a third of my life at ESPN. All my children were born while I was employed here." He added that "I have extremely mixed emotions about leaving."

See...what'd I tell ya? I knew Rosie wouldn't get this gig. As for Drew Carey? THe only thing that could qualify him to host TPIR (and boy, is THIS a stretch), is that if he dropped about 50 lbs, he could freak some poeple out into thinking that BILL CULLEN came back from the dead!
(admit it, with those glasses and crewcut, he DOES bear a slight facial resemblence to the REAL dean of game shows!)

All silliness aside, Hamilton could pull it off; but Todd Newton would be my first choice, followed by Bob Goen and Marc Summers (who unsuccessfully tried to get the gig on the ill-fated version hosted by DOUG DAVIDSON).

I'm not giving up on my choices, not by a longshot. I still hope either Todd Newton or Rich Fields gets the job

Never thought I would defend Rosie, but she's right not to uproot her family. Though if she really wanted the job (which I'm glad she doesn't), she could do like they've been doing lately...tape 3 shows a day and then she could fly back to NY for the rest of the week. They could even do like they do with Wheel of Fortune...tape an entire season's worth of episodes in 30 days.

If she were to host, I can see a pricing game for a car and her saying, "It costs how much for that car? It's all because of George Bush and inflation. The price of that car is equal to the number of people killed in the Iraq war." lol

I still can't get over Rosie's statement: she doesn't need the money? Must be nice. She doesn't think living a childhood dream -- one that she's talked about for YEARS -- is suddenly "worth it?" That sounds to me like a line that could have been devised to allow her to save face if the reality was that the producers weren't as impressed with her as she seems to want us to believe.

The fact is, if you have all the money you need, and you have this childhood dream, you can afford to make it work, whether having a home on each coast or commuting first class all the way.

At least now we probably won't have to listen to stories about Rosie WANTING to host the show.

My top pick is Todd Newton. I also think Tom Bergeron could do a good job. I wouldn't be upset if they could get Marc Summers.

Mark Steines might be okay, too. He's got some personality; it's just a shame that you have to sit through the tabloid mess they've turned "Entertainment Tonight" into to see it.

I don't see George Hamilton or John O'Hurley doing the show. Hamilton feels too much like they're trying to find someone too much like Barker; O'Hurley strikes me as being too fake. Drew Carey? I don't see that at all!

I'm not one of those who's going to promise to stop watching IF they pick "so and so." I'm going to watch, no matter who they pick, because I like the show. I'm willing to give anyone a chance; but this prolonged search is just embarrassing. Barker's 83. It's inconceivable to me that they had NOTHING on the drawing board!

I continue saying give Todd a chance. How many of you can honestly say you have seen him hosting Price? I have......back in 2004. He was totally different than his Whammy persona then and time only makes it better. Sometimes I wonder if some people aren't just wishing for Price to go away for whatever reasons they conceive....

Rumours say Bob Goen's interested in the job, he'd be one to look at too.

Rosie's out........THANK GOD!

Todd would be good if his excitement level is toned down a little, but still enthusiastic enough to shows that he cares about the contestants winning.

Tom would be awesome for the job, but it's not happening 'cause ABC doesn't want to lose him, and understandably so.

John O'Hurley, Great on Feud, would be great for TPIR, but he may just be tied down with Feud right now.

CBS, make a good choice, and don't screw this up!

Unless Fremantle/CBS pays out the nose for Bergeron, it isn't happening. ABC surely wouldn't want to lose the current host of ABC's most popular quasi-reality show ever (AHV) and the host of ABC's hottest reality property in Dancing with the Stars without recouping a healthy chunk of change.
