ABC’s website says that Mike Greenberg, sans pen, returns to the airwaves with previously unaired episodes starting Friday, June 27 at 9/8c. Prediction: It gets better ratings than “Wipeout” or “Japanese Game Show.”
I too hope it does well, becuase it worried me when that guy won the $500,000 and no one mentioned it on-line. It’s a good show it’s jsut not giving away enough money for network primetime.
Not being up against The Price is Right will (I hope) help a bit, but I don’t think that there’s any chance of this doing well enough to be given another reprieve. Frankly, I’ll be surprised if ABC does much at all in the way of promotion for these last few.
Perhaps as an aside, it seems rather convenient that they showed just enough episodes to get to the $500,000 win. I think they decided to pull the show as soon as possible after that first week or two, but didn’t feel that they dared not get at least as far as that big win.
Would be nice if they at least pick up some steam for the summertime. If nothing else, it could make a nice summertime series, the way NBC and FOX do with “America’s Got Talent” and “So You Think You Can Dance?”, respectively.
That’s two really enjoyable shows not getting a fair shake…”Singing Bee” is the other one. Oh yeah, “1 vs. 100″.
HEY! Don’t knock Wipeout just yet. MXC was Spike TV’s bread and butter before the UFC come on it and if they treat it as a comedy game, it could do quite well.
I agree with ScottNotSteve. This is good news. Duel isn’t as bad as people are making out to be. Sure it’s not Deal or No Deal (then again who is?), but it’s a very competitive game show that deserves a much better day (if not time) slot than Friday Nights. Tuesday 8/7 c time slot would be a better time slot because of lack of competitve reality shows. Pray for a Season 3.
1. Our site mentioned it, both on the main page and on WLTI
2. 2 Words on Duel. Burn. Off.
3. I think Wipeout may surprise. People love that stuff, and I think it will do better than Duel.
4. You have as much chance of seeing a Season 3 of Duel as you have a chance of dating Anna Kournikova.
Wipeout will be more like the original show MXC was cut/pasted from, Takeshi’s Castle in Japan, than MXC ever was. and if Fox’s “Hole in the wall” is getting produced, this definitely has a better than average shot as doing well.
This is a burn-off scenario, nothing more. It’s highly unlikely the ratings on summer Fridays will be even remotely close to the level that would make ABC consider it for another summer run.
As a game show junkie, I liked the original idea better–the tournament, the one-week burst. As modified, the game is ok, not great.
I will give ABC credit for at least running the remaining episodes. Duel is a fun game and I think it deserves a better timeslot. The format this time around is a lot easier to understand. If ABC is going to put it on Friday I think they ought to put it on at 8/7 central.
I still say Duel would be a pretty good syndication GS.
The format lends itself to individual games, that you could split mid-game between days if needed.
People could just keep on “Dueling” as long as they could stay on. Make each chip worth $1,000. Having at most $10,000 wins per “Duel” isn’t really that much. Even if someone won 2 Duels per 1/2 hour show, that is only $20,000, which is on par with a high Jeopardy round, and most WOF and Millionaire takes per show.
Each chip is worth $2,500. Winners “duel” as long as they can win. A champion wins a car for every 5 games they win. If a champ is defeated, the challenger’s winnings are taken out of the champ’s cash winnings. (The cars are safe).

As much as I would love for Greeney and the game to return for another season, I’ll just enjoy seeing the remaining episodes this summer.

I agree, davec. Only, here’s how I would do it:
Each chip is worth $2,500. Winners “duel” as long as they can win. A champion wins a car for every 5 games they win. If a champ is defeated, the challenger’s winnings are taken out of the champ’s cash winnings. (The cars are safe).
