Extremely exciting news this morning! Cynopsis is reporting that ABC will be reviving the popular reality series The Mole for a fifth season apparently with civilians to air in the Spring/Summer. Casting is already beginning. No word on a host yet, sadly. As Cynopsis states, it won’t be Anderson Cooper (sadly) because of his CNN show and Ahmad Rashad has not been asked to return. I wonder what older stand up comic we have coming out of the pipeline now.
This is fantastic news for me. I’m not really a reality show fan. However, I am a huge fan of The Mole; it’s the only one I’ll watch. Probably because it’s more of a game than just watching people live together. The whole backstabbing element is intriguing to me. The last time The Mole was on in 2004, and the last two series were celebrity ones. It’s nice to get back to basics and have regular people playing the ultimate game of betrayal. Trust me, we will be covering this show in depth.

YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
ABC may finally do something right, after millionaire it took a few tries (show me the money, national bingo night, duel and others I’m sure I’m forgetting)
as far as a host i’d like to nominate Mike Greenberg (he may even still be on contract with abc). it’s too bad it won’t be Anderson but I’m not surprised. He’s far too busy with CNN and he hinted on his celebrity jeopardy appearance that it’s soemthing he doesn’t want to do again. Ahmad was okay, but I felt he didn’t interact well with celebrities he might do better with civilians

I am so happy right now!!! This was the show that it acceptable for me to watch “reality shows,” and was always my favorite, by far. My brothers and I would always be glued to the TV for the show, every week, without fail. I never thought this could be possible, but happy days are here!!!

This is great news. I loved the Mole when I saw it on GSN..yeah back on that 2004….well anyway it was one of my favorites and can’t wait to see this return. I DO hope just for the sake of what’s happened in the past, GSN doesn’t plan on getting this after ABC this time. I reeaaaaallly don’t want to put up with MORE complaining on the GSN boards.

I freaking LOVE this! This is one of my favorite TV shows. It only sucks that Cooper won’t be hosting. I tried out for American Gladiators and I didn’t make it, now I’m gonna try to make it onto The Mole.

Best of luck to you, Pat.
What is going on at ABC? They went from a string of bad game show decisions to putting out a game show that isn’t a total piece of sh*t! Now they’re reviving what is, IMHO, one of the GREATEST reality shows EVER!
Am I the only one who thinks Corbin Bernsen should give this a shot? (if “How Much is Enough?” doesn’t work out, of course)

I’m so happy with the news. Strikes bring out the best out of people.

When I read this headline, I literally screamed! BEST NEWS EVER! Shame they don’t have Anderson, though. I’d take Corbin!
I hope they’ll let me try out - I’m only 19.

Two Words: FREAKIN’ AWESOME!
I’ve dreamed of the day when this show would come back… and now I can finally wake up! (Sorry if that sounded corny) :) This was one of my favorite reality shows.
I’m curious who the host will be. Neville has a good point… Corbin would be a good host, I think.

You really can not imagine the smile on my face right now.
I’m like you Alex, I’m not big on the reality genre. It’s been pretty much this and The Amazing Race. To hear that this will be making a comeback at last is the best news of this season by far.
According to Reality Blurred/Variety, Scott Stone (part of the now broken Stone Stantley studio) had been angling for a revival for a while, and finally got the rights back two months ago. So this may not totally be strike related (take that as you will).
By the way, for anyone with the channel, Fox Reality is slated to do a marathon run of the entire first season of the show Sunday, January 20th beginning at 9AM ET. Sounds like a good way to get ready for it’s return.

Woo hoo! Fantastic news indeed! The Mole (civilian version) was never given a fair shake. Also sorry to hear Cooper won’t be back, he did lend a lot to the feel of the show but I agree that Greeny and his dry sense of humor might just work. Thanks for the tip about Season One, Jeffy. I’ll be watching!

HOLY MOTHER!
My FAVORITE Reality Show is returning!????? W000000000000000000000T!!!!!111one!!
SWEET! I never could’ve called this. INCREDIBLE!
The Mole blew the water out of so many of the other Reality Shows out there in 2004. I’m not a reality fan (I’ve said that many times) but the only three shows of the genre I watched were Amazing Race, Big Brother and this.
Getting back to basics and watching civilians play for the million will be an absolute treat for me again. I’m not sure about who should host though. Greenberg has potential, as he has some of the same motions and idiosyncrasies Anderson did. He was great and Ahmad left something to be desired, IMHO, and thus, I’m not pulling for a comedian this time around. Nonetheless…
I AM STOKED!! :D

What SPECTACULAR news this is.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the non-celebrity Mole, and I cannot WAIT for this to return, hopefully for multiple seasons.
They do need a strong host, though. Following Anderson isn’t going to be easy. And they need to put it in a good place on their schedule. The Friday night slot they had for Mole 2 led to its demise, so hopefully they’ll put it on when people will actually watch.
Thank you ABC!

Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou…
Anderson Cooper only hosted series 1 because he was the voernight host on World News Now, and Ahmad Rashad sounded too “fun” for such a serious show. I fear Corbin Bernsen may be the same, but maybe this is the vehicle Rossi Morreale needs (after Pat Finn replaces him on a revamped Temptation (a guy can hint and dream, can’t he?)).

Admittedly, I never watched “The Mole” before, but I always heard it was a good show, and I always wanted to see it. And now I can! Hooray!
Digressing slightly, I remember ABC had contestant sign-ups on their website years back for a reality show (I think pre-Mole) that was called “The Runner,” and by the sounds of it, it would have been based on UK’s “Wanted”… I think ABC even taped the pilot, but it never really launched… Does this ring a bell to anyone, or am I cracking up?

When I heard about this earlier today, it made me very happy. I’ve been watching reruns of the show on GameTV for about a few months now (it started airing the second season last week), and on occasion, while watching, I thought to myself, “Man, I wish we could get a new season of The Mole someday…” To know that it’s actually going to happen has really made my day!

Oh, wow. Yippee wow. This never happens. They’re bringing one of the good ones back. Puzzle-solving pseudo-espionage merit-based goodness. And no celebrities. I must be dreaming.

Ok, I’ve been on ABC’s website, and at the bottom of the page it says casting. I went to it and it didn’t have The Mole listed as a show you could try out for.

I as well was extremely excited to hear that The Mole was returning. I never considered this a reality show. To me it was always a game. Immediately, like everyone else, I started trying to think of the best host for the new version. I finally settled on an answer. But first, the reasoning:
A) He has experience working for Stone Productions.
B) He can be over the top when necessary, but can also pull it back and be subtle and mysterious.
C) He has a brilliant sense of humor.
D) He can improvise and adapt at the drop of a hat.
I present to you my choice for the new host of The Mole…………….
Ralph Garman!
After his work on the Joe Schmo Show, keeping that whole thing a secret, I think he is the perfect choice. I know some people will disagree, but I think he has the chops to make it work well.

Ralph Garman! Excellent idea! I agree with Ben that Ralph Garman will do well as the host of the Mole. He can keep his cool under the most ridiculous circumstances, and he can put on a good “game” face when needed, and throw in a little fun in the process. We should petition for Ralph to be the host, lol!
