ABC Debuts “Winter Wipeout” in January

Fans of ABC’s hit stunt game show Wipeout aren’t going to have to wait until summer for a new season.  ABC will be adding an additional winter run this January, dubbed Winter Wipeout.  Eight hour-long episodes will air in total.  It’s in addition to the 16 episodes that will air this summer, bringing the entire season up to 24 episodes and 70 episodes in total.  John Anderson, John Henson, and Jill Wagner.

The winter counterpart of Wipeout will be basically the same, just with winter and snow themed stunts.  New stunts include Spanker Sleds, the Wipeout Ski Lift, and the Polar Bear Run.  The competition starts with 24 episodes and it’s brought down to one person in the Wipeout Zone who takes home $50,000.

“’Wipeout’ is one of Endemol’s most successful global hits, and it’s exciting to see the brand expanding,” said David Goldberg, Chairman of Endemol USA. “I’m thrilled that fans of the summer version will now be able to get their fix of laughs and wipeouts set in a winter wonderland.”

Anyone else excited?  I’m a big fan of the show so I’m always glad to see it.  I worry about burn-out a little bit as I’m sure they do, but Wipeout aired at least twice a week this summer for a while and did very well as usual, so I think it’ll be fine.  It’s a nice cheap schedule filler for ABC, and it’s a lot of fun to watch.  It’s a win-win for everyone.

This is great news! Besides, I think it was on twice a week because something got cancelled. It’s not like when they put Millionaire on two or more times a week, on purpose. Like you said, it’s cheap, entertaining filler.

I think they meant “won’t have to wait until Summer”, not January.

  • David says:

It’s a good idea- they can stick this on Tuesdays between Dancing With The Stars seasons, and swap timeslots with No Ordinary Family. It’s a low-cost, relatively low-risk strategy. I don’t see a danger in burnout- it’ll be a little over 4 months since the last Wipeout ep aired, and not much will be on but reruns.

  • Cody says:

Yeah. Reruns of The Mittle and Modern family.

But Me and my syster Ashley are vary excited to see a new season of Wipeout this winter.
