ABC Announces Debut Dates of “Shark Tank” and “Take the Money and Run”

ABC’s always been great with trying new game and reality shows the past couple years, and they’ll continue to do so in 2011.  In addition to Wipeout, the network has one returning show and one brand new one to enjoy.  The new show is a competition chase series called Take the Money and Run.  The team behind shows like The Amazing Race and CSI produce this six episode series debuting Thursday, April 14th, at 8:00PM ET.

Take the Money and Run sees contestants trying to outsmart and outrace real law enforcement people for a shot at $100,000.  A similar show ran on SyFy in 2008, called Cha$e.  It was a great show and I’m interested to see how the ABC version expands on the concept to make it much larger and ready for primetime network television.  You can actually watch Cha$e on Hulu by clicking here.

One of my personal favorites is coming back, as well.  Shark Tank‘s second season finally has a debut date.   The new season will begin on Friday, March 25th, at 8:00PM ET.  The show sees entrepreneurs come before a panel of successful business people and appeal to take a stake in their company.  It was already announced that celebrities like Jeff Foxworthy will appear on the panel this season.

My favorite memory of Shark Tank is still when they quoted me for a review.  Normally that’s not a massive deal since it happens all the time, but they chose the quote that best sums up what BuzzerBlog has meant to the unscripted television world: complete nonsense and brutal honesty.  It’s a badge of honor.

Also, for those asking, I still haven’t heard anything about Million Dollar Mind Game but I’m starting to get the feeling it’s just not going to air.

  • This looks like a pretty interesting line-up. Now if we could only know when Six Minds will premiere, add that to the mix and you got a excellent prime-time line up for ABC!!!!!

I’m looking forward to “Take the Money and Run”.

Kinda sad to see ABC’s decision of airing “Million Dollar Mind Game” fall through the cracks.

Also, “Expedition Impossible” reminds me of one of my favorite shows, “Treasure Hunters”, which debuted on NBC several years back. If it turns out to be the same type of style, I’ll be watching it every week.

By the way Alex, have you heard anything about the return of “Downfall”?

  • Andrew says:

Scott “Downfall” was canceled back in the summer of 2010. It lasted only 5 episodes (originally was to have been 6 episodes). As for “Take the Money and Run” who is going the host ? Will they use the Steve Miller Band’s song of the same name be implemented into the show as its theme song?

What are the producers of “Shark Tank” thinking when they have celebrities on their panel considering the type of show it is? Up here in Canada, on the equivalent, CBC’s “Dragon’s Den”, they have four people who are actually big business executives, and they can be pretty entertaining before deciding whether or not to cross the t’s and dot the i’s on certain business proposals. You should try watching an episode of this version. You should be able to do it through the network’s website at cbc.ca. You’ll probably enjoy it, Alex.

  • Ryan says:

Andrew, Downfall was 5 episodes instead of 6, because they speed up the pace of the show and were able to fit all contestants in 5 episodes instead of six. As of the multiple game show websites that I have seen, Downfall has not yet been officially cancelled, it is simply on hiatus!! ABC has never mentioned its cancellation!

  • Ryan says:

Also, Alex, I see a casting call up on ABC’s website for a gameshow called You Deserve It. Has there been any information released about it?

Ahhh, Cha$e. I loved that show. A mix of a real life video game, hide and seek, and The Amazing Race. I thought that was an incredible show with the hunters looking like CIA angents and their eye glass cameras, the Wii controller sending hunters the other way, the glasses that make the person “invisible”, everything about it was cool. I’m deffinalty going to check out “Take The Money And Run”. The only down side is the police will be the hunters in this one. I can understand it cause of the show’s title, but these are people trained to catch them. Cha$e had endurance runners, free runners, sprinter, basically people who can actually run. They made the show something to watch cause of how the players ran their asses off. But yeah, similar concepts and I can’t wait.

    Whatever happened to The Six?
