A Look Back to “Millionaire”‘s First Episode
Like it or not, the long weekend is over. We’ll have some actual news coming up shortly. But let’s just start with a video for now (and more will come). Millionaire, as you must all know by now, is getting a new format. Though the show is really pretty similar to the previous version, with just an updated coat of paint, the most familiar part will be the Final Four questions, which the show called “Classic Millionaire”. If you’re going to be nostalgic to the old show, this is the final week you’ll see of it in syndication before the new format begins next week. However, why not go further back? Hulu has the entire first season of Who Wants to be a Millionaire uploaded. Take a look back to the very first episode and see how far the show has come since then. It’s a really interesting shift from then to now.

Subconsciously, people would add the lyrics “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” to the melody of the original sting. I wonder how long it’ll be until people will do it to the new one…
I can not wait till next week to see the new Millionaire but, I do love looking back at how the old Millionaire was played.
This is going to be awesome!
AWWW MAAAANN. I just got a call from Millionaire to remind me I have tickets for tomorrow. Never got them in the mail, though. Up in Canada with an expired passport. Damn it all.
Episode 10 from 8/25/1999 is memorable, as it saw Thom Mckee’s single game show contestant record, which stood for 19 years, broken.
I’m going to be there next month. I just got my confirmation in the mail today–3 tapings??? Yikes! And they’re making me show up at the studio much earlier than in previous seasons, I have to be there at 1015am–it takes me 2 hours in good traffic, now I have to deal with the morning rush hour.
Maybe I’ll take the bus this time and hoof it up to the studio :(
At the beginning of this first episode, there no hot seat during fastest fingers. Who knew 11 years later, it would be no hot seat at all for 2010 season.
Is there anyway that non-US residents can watch this episode? I find Hulu’s “sorry, we can’t stream this in your location because you’re not in the US” reason a whole load of bullsh*t. And they keep claiming that they will start streaming to other countries soon, but that promise has been around for a few years now. Sorry for my rant, but that’s how I feel about Hulu.
I don’t think Regis could handle this new format of “Millonaire” with standing.
Man it seems like yesterday that Millionaire was first on the air…
