The reason he makes these changes is because he can. Sony wants him to. Why? In an interview on Youtube he talks about how for many years Wheel could only be described as a mega hit and Sony felt like the show needed to be taken in a new direction.

I feel that it has gone in the wrong direction. The show is just too gimkicky, rushed, dull and boring nowdays. The only good "tweak" that he made to the show was the electronic puzzleboard but even that got f'd up since they took the boarder off of it. If Sony and Friedman want to do something different how about they ditch the "Happy Wheels" theme and videoscreen and bring back the theme written by Merv Griffin, "Changing Keys", and the multicolored backdrops. I'd rather see that than this 3D foolishness. And please don't give them any ideas to f'up Jeopardy! the new theme with the pointless additions and the removal of the JEOPARDY! letters is bad enough.

The point being, why should I bother getting something for 3D when my own eyes are just fine for WoF. Our whole lives revolve in 3D(or more to the point,4D if you count time). If I wanna see something in 3D, all I have to do is just use my eyes..
