“20Q” and “Money List” Gain Weekday Evening Replays

Edit: I said 10AM, for some reason. I meant 12:00AM.  Sorry.  This is why I need a vacation.  I’m burned out.

I’m on vacation for the next week and staying far away from a computer for the most part.  I wrote this on my iPhone so I’ll have to check your feelings and comments next week when I return.  However, I had to pass this along.  Big Saturday Night seems like a little bit of a bomb, doesn’t it?  I haven’t heard more than two or three people saying anything good about the BSN segments they did between shows.  Again, personally, I thought it sucked and bordered on embarrassing.  I appreciate the effort, but it failed rather spectacularly.  However, 20Q and The Money List ended up pretty good.  I honestly fear for the two shows being dragged down from stretching out to 90 minutes from the original 60 minutes in this block and just the general crappiness of it in general.  GSN’s giving you more chances to catch the shows without the BSNight stuff in there.

Starting Monday, June 29th, 20Q will air Mondays at 8:00PM ET and The Money List at 9:00PM ET.  Furthermore, starting that same week, The Money List will air Wednesdays at 8:00PM ET and Thursdays at 12:00AM ET.  20Q will air Thursdays at 9:00PM ET and Wednesdays at 12:00AM ET.  So the good news is that I can’t encourage you all enough to watch the shows in their usual hour long format instead of whatever form it’s in now.  The bad news is that the schedule’s a bit of a mess now.  Scratch that.  It’s all over the board.

I’ve said this from the start: I thought the GSN rebranding a few years back did a few good things.  The one thing I wish they would just bring back is every night, from 10:00PM ET to midnight, is a different block of shows.  It added variety, allowed them to play once-a-week hour-long game shows without screwing up the schedule, and it added something new.  I really have no idea what’s going on with this at all.  We’ll see how the ratings go for it.  I heard the ratings for the entire BSNight block were not that good.  They ranged in the Game Show Awards level of around 450K viewers.  For the amount of advertising and promotion that thing got, not to mention the ungodly money they give away to audience members, that’s not that good.  If they want to figure out why the ratings for it aren’t good I think there are dozens of places discussing why it sucked.  It’s essentially the same reasons people gave for the awards show not working to its fullest.

They won't listen to their viewers. There's a whole thread about B.S. Night at GSN Buzz that Guide Angel said she'd pass along to The Powers That Be. I posted there what was essentially a watered down version of my comment on the other B.S. Night post here, and it got deleted twice. In a final attempt at getting heard, I actually linked to my comment here and got a ban threat. Apparently, if your comment doesn't fall along the lines of this: "ZOMFGROFLMAOBBQLOL ITSA BIG NIGH TOF GAEMZ AND PRIZES ILL B WATHCING EVRY WEEK!!!!1" then it'll get censored. They're afraid of honest criticisms, and that is why the show won't get any better. If you're one of the 14 people out of the un-Godly 450,000 viewers they had that night who liked the show, by all means keep watching. If you like dignified television like the rest of us, though, stay clear of this shit. Myself, I'll be watching 20Q and Money List, two absolutely brilliant shows, on Mondays from now on, as they ought to be aired.

Well, I'm glad GSN had the good sense to place reruns of The Money List on various weeknights (though the schedule still looks like it was put together by someone throwing darts at a dartboard blindfolded).

  • Craiggers says:

I have to agree. Wednesdays at 10am seems a bit weird for a prime time "big money" game show.
But that also kills a running of Comb's Feud and the $25,000 Pyramid, which usually airs during that hour…

  • DeVares says:

    I think he meant 10pm., not 10am.

  • DeVares says:

I think it's a good idea. I think GSN should model the prime time schedule like the broadcast networks (similar to what TNT is doing). Here's how I would do it:

Mondays: 1 vs 100 (8p), Deal or No Deal (9p)
Tuesdays: Millionaire (Regis' version) (8p), Millionaire (Viera's version) (9p)
    Wednesdays: 20Q (8p), The Money List (9p)
Thursdays: The Weakest Link (Robinson) (8p), The Weakest Link (Gray) (9p)
    Fridays: Twenty-One (8p), High Stakes Poker (9p)

Again, that's how I would do it.

I like the idea of 20Q and Money List airing the same episodes throughout the week, mainly because if you miss it the first time, it's not the end of the world.

As I said in an earler blog post, that GSN Buzz board is basically a "biasded" board. Why can't they accept constructive critticism like, say, the Game Show Forum(which I'm a member of) is beyond me. The fact that GSN caters to dare I say a "select" few who are so giddy about what they see, they turn a blind eye on good natured fans like us. Come on, we don't need THAT!

  • Eddie says:

Real quick, when was the last time any show on any network was successful on Saturday night? And the GSN schedule has always been, in a word, a big cluster****.

  • DeVares says:

Well, that is true. Fox's the only network that has a successful Saturday Night block mainly because Cops and America's Most Wanted have been a staple of that network for years.

  • Adam says:

GSN BSN is dragging the ratings of the two new shows down. IMO, GSN is making an effort to make sure both shows get cancelled quickly. GSN isn't thinking smart at all.

  • Craig says:

Whoever's running GSN oughtta be fired. Saturday night's the least watched night of the week. Whose hairbrained idea was it to put 20Q & The Money List on that night let alone its BSN crapfest.

  • Seth says:

To find the source of the lapses in judgment with regards to GSN's programming decisions in the last nine months or so, one should probably consider whether any key personnel changes have occured that would lead to a change in philosophy. And wouldn't you know it, GSN hired a new VP of Programming in…October 2008. And when did the schedule start it's slide to it's current state? October 2008.

More than likely, 80-90% of the things that all of you have complained about in the last nine months? They can be traced to THIS one event. Any criticisms over the network's on-air direction, including Boring Saturday Night, shows whose leases were allowed to lapse, and other on-air oddities – should probably be directed their way.

  • Concerned GSN Viewer says:

Let's call the crapfest by it's correct name "BS Night". Perfectly fitting as it can be interpreted in a number of ways (and one of which sticks out)

  • Randy says:

And there has been an exodus of many long time programming people as well. You are 100% correct. That one event has led to more bad decisions than anything else.

  • No kidding! Life is funny, ain’t it?

  • Randy says:

Most of the postings on that board look like they're made by retarded people. I can't believe they actually ban people for honest remarks. It makes their viewers seem like a bunch of retards.

  • DeVares says:

That's not bad either. Adding game shows from other countries makes it even better.
