“GSN Live” and “Instant Recall” Videos

I've got two quick videos to show you for today, and possibly some more tomorrow.  First off, I wanted to show this remotely delayed GSN Live video.  My favorite moments on any live show are where the contestants don't exactly go the way the crew planned, often leaving it in a near-censor worthy situation.  GSN Live had one of those a bit ago, check it out below.  They somehow just chugged along without a breakdown, which is shocking.  My favorite is still the Fred Roggin situation from around a year ago, that you can see by clicking here.  Just scroll to around the three minute mark. “Price is Right” and “Let’s Make A Deal” Celebrate Milestones in March Thumbnail

“Price is Right” and “Let’s Make A Deal” Celebrate Milestones in March

Both The Price is Right and Let's Make A Deal will be having some great specials coming up in March. Two of which in particular are special. Let's start with Let's Make A Deal which is doing well in the ratings and seems to be getting better each day. The show, hosted by Wayne Brady, will be celebrating its 100th episode on Wednesday, March 3rd. That's next week. To celebrate they will have the first annual "Dealie Awards", given away based on the contestant's costumes. The catch is people can trade their awards back for a prize if they want to. Given how these big episodes go, I'd be expecting to see some big prizes given away. Not only that, I'm hearing rumors that the legendary game show host and original Let's Make A Deal host Monty Hall may be appearing on this episode. I'm still trying to get confirmation, but I've heard multiple reports of it

Ratings Report: Poor “Deal or No Deal” Thumbnail

Ratings Report: Poor “Deal or No Deal”

A new ratings report came in yesterday.  As the headline says, all you can think is, "Poor Deal or No Deal," whenever you see the ratings these days.  No matter what the other shows do, even if everything else increases, Deal cannot seem to get any momentum whatsoever.  It's almost like the viewers know it's canceled and aren't bothering to stick around anymore.  It had a not-so-nice drop for the week ending February 14th.  It went down 8% to a 1.1 rating.  It just can't do anything no matter what they throw out there.  It went down 8% last ratings report also, so we're down 16% during the sweeps period.  Not too good. I really do like Deal or No Deal, so it's a bit dist

“Millionaire”‘s Annual Million Dollar Movie Week Begins March 1st Thumbnail

“Millionaire”‘s Annual Million Dollar Movie Week Begins March 1st

One of the best and most exciting weeks in each season of Who Wants to be a Millionaire is quickly approaching. The annual Million Dollar Movie Week will start March 1st and run through March 5th. Netflix is teaming up with the hit quiz show hosted by Meredith Vieira yet again, testing people's movie trivia as they try to become the show's next millionaire. If you aren't completely familiar with it, Million Dollar Movie Week generally gives out the biggest checks each season. There's generally at least one $250,000 winner each week. Last year there was one or two who got to the six figure questions not using a single lifeline, so if you're one of those people constantly griping about it being harder to win big money on the show these days, I'd tune in if I were you.

“Minute to Win It” Game Previews Thumbnail

“Minute to Win It” Game Previews

NBC recently released some clips of various games that will be played on their new game show Minute to Win It, debuting March 14th at 7:00PM ET.  Four of the games are below.  I really don't know what to completely say, but I'm sure some of you will fill in the blanks.  The presentation of the games is so overblown in a bad way that it's groan-worthy.  The bad thing is Guy Fieri does a really nice job.  He's just stuck here.  Take a look at the clips below.  Again, despite the complaints, I still think the show will do fine for the first episode or two because of massive promotion.

GSN Casts for New Dating Game Show

RealityWanted has posted a casting notice for a new GSN dating game show.  They say it's going to be more lighthearted and they'll be choosing each other from the person's personality, quirks, and baggage.  They also say they won't be going out on a date so I don't quite see the point in it.  Furthermore they say you don't have to be single and if you make it onto the show they'll just fib about that part a bit.  If you're interested, click here.

Rumor Control: “The Cube” Greenlit by CBS; Now Casting? Thumbnail

Rumor Control: “The Cube” Greenlit by CBS; Now Casting?

Obviously we can't confirm anything yet and we doubt CBS will come out and tell us since they'll want to do a big press thing about it first, but some evidence is coming in that CBS has greenlit the hit UK game show The Cube for what appears to be a summer run. This would follow in the footsteps of previous CBS primetime game shows Power of 10 and Million Dollar Password. Some clues, beyond resounding good word from our sources and from audience reports, comes from recent casting notices.

“Don’t Forget The Lyrics!” Cleared in 65% of Country

Deal or No Deal may be leaving syndication, filling a void for game show fans. Luckily, for those of you looking for a new one, you'll probably be able to find the revival of Fox's hit singing competition Don't Forget The Lyrics! near you. Lyrics has been picked up in 65% of the country, equaling its companion show Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? which is also cleared in 65% of America. So most likely if you are watching Fifth Grader you'll be seeing Don't Forget The Lyrics! on the same channel close to the same time.

UK Hit “The Crystal Maze” and “VoiceOver Man” Get iPhone Apps Thumbnail

UK Hit “The Crystal Maze” and “VoiceOver Man” Get iPhone Apps

It's no big secret that the iPhone and the App Store are two of the biggest innovations in a long time. As the App Store becomes increasingly popular, more and more apps for game show fans are becoming available. We've discussed the new American ones like crazy, especially the incredibly great Who Wants to be a Millionaire app. Two just came out of England based on television personalities and shows, and both are fantastic. Before that, we wanted to share another great quiz app. It's called, fittingly, quizquizquiz. It's one of the most popular quiz apps in the history of the store and boasts over 5,000 questions. Various styles of gameplay are included, such as Beat the Clock and Passaround. At only $1.99 it's a fantastic value. I can't implore you enough to take a look at grab it if you're a quiz fan, which I'm guessing most of you are.

Weekend Replay: Aussie “Deal or No Deal” Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: Aussie “Deal or No Deal”

We've finally got an exciting and/or interesting clip to show you for this week's Weekend Replay! We're going abroad this time, over to Australia and their edition of Deal or No Deal. Aussie Deal has been going strongly daily since 2004. It's come under incredible competition recently from the Who Wants to be a Millionaire spinoff Hot Seat, but it's still doing well. It's essentially the same format as ours. The top prize is $200,000 and the people holding the cases get to guess what is inside them for a $500 prize, much like the Dutch version. Where it becomes different (and superior) to ours is the variety of sub-games they have. One is Chance, where a player who has previously taken a Deal and plays the "What Would Have Happened" ending down to two cases has the option to give back the Deal to open his or her case. The British use this as "Banker's Gamble".

Breaking: F.C.C. Opens Inquiry on “Our Little Genius”

This is getting just as bad as it can get right now. The F.C.C. has opened an inquiry and is investigation the canceled FOX game show Our Little Genius under allegation of rigging the competition. The current allegation is the contestants were given questions before the show happened, which we speculated when the situation first occurred and the show was pulled a week before debut.

Ratings Update: CBS Game Shows Post Ratings Gains Thumbnail

Ratings Update: CBS Game Shows Post Ratings Gains

Quick ratings update for you all, per a press release sent by CBS. The Price is Right and it's new companion Let's Make A Deal seem to be doing incredibly well right now. Both are posting double-digit gains compared to a year ago. While that's good for Price, it's even better for Let's Make A Deal which hasn't been officially renewed yet, but it's looking likely. First, though, is Price. The Drew Carey hosted game, currently in its 37th season, is up 12% from last year; from around 4.5 million viewers to five. In the important demographics, Price is up 15% in women 25-54 and up 18% in adults 25-54. Fantastic news for the show which came off a rocky season last year. The show's been improving and it just keeps getting better.

“Minute to Win It” Picture Gallery

We're getting pretty close to the debut of the newest primetime game show. NBC's Minute to Win It will be starting March 14th from 7:00PM ET to 9:00PM ET. It's been promoted pretty well during the Olympics, so I can see it getting a pretty decent turnout on the first episode at least. NBC released pictures of game play and the set today. The gallery is below. How do you make an audience seem larger? Get a giant video monitor at the top of the set, behind the audience, and put a picture of the audience section up there. At least it's better than The Moment of Truth using blow up dolls for audience members sometimes.

Ratings Report: All But “Family Feud” Down Thumbnail

Ratings Report: All But “Family Feud” Down

We've got ratings for the week ending February 2nd coming up. First, though, we got reports of ratings for the premiere of High Stakes Poker. Given how popular the show has been in the past, the ratings are shockingly low. We've got reports that the show sixth season debut only got a .2 rating. It's very down, by that show's standards. I wonder what happened. Has interest just died down? I've been hearing from a few people that there really was practically little attention given or huge support, showcasing what is probably the channel's most valuable show (and rightly so).
