“Fresh Prince of Bel Air” Reunion on “Catch 21″ Thursday, October 22 Thumbnail

“Fresh Prince of Bel Air” Reunion on “Catch 21″ Thursday, October 22

GSN's going to continue to throw the celebrity shows at us with a special version of Catch 21 featuring ames Avery (Philip Banks), Tatyana Ali (Ashley Banks) and Karyn Parsons (Hilary Banks).  Will Smith was too busy doing, you know, movies and stuff.  Alfonso Ribiero, who hosts the hit GSN game show, was also on Fresh Prince so this special practically wrote itself.  The three actors will play for $25,000 for their favorite charities.  The fantastic Mikki Padilla is the dealer as always.  The special will air Thursday, October 22nd, at 6:30PM ET on GSN. OK, now that we have the plug out of the way: is anyone getting sick of these constant celebrity specials or is it just me?  I mean one or two, maybe three, a season is fine.  But there

Ratings Report: “Let’s Make A Deal” Debuts Decent Thumbnail

Ratings Report: “Let’s Make A Deal” Debuts Decent

We've got a quick ratings report for you all today.  First off we've finally got some ratings for Let's Make A Deal and it doesn't look at all bad once we factor in that it has to be so much cheaper to do than Guiding Light.  Nationally the show seems to be averaging 1.5 to 2.0 rating with some higher ones thrown again.  Again, this show is definitely cheaper than Guiding Light and the ratings don't seem to have dipped from the transition of the soap to the game show so that's definitely great news for the genre.  The show's been picking up in the past few episodes which is always good.  Wayne Brady is doing excellent and the show's pretty entertaining.  If it can keep this up I see a nice long run coming for Let's Make A Deal and possibly

Weekday Afternoon GSN Schedules Changes on November 9th

We've got a few changes coming to the weekday afternoon lineup on GSN for you.  Super Password will be losing its weekday slots and be regulated to weekend mornings.  At 11:00AM ET is now Love Connection, which GSN loves to pull out for some unknown reason constantly.  The dating show is hosted by Chuck Woolery.  11:30AM ET will see Wheel of Fortune, which moves from its old 12:30PM ET slot. At 12:00PM ET is Match Game which replaces Jeopardy!.  12:30PM ET is the Richard Dawson edition of Family Feud.  1:00PM ET interestingly sees the daytime return of the Tom Bergeron edition of Hollywood Squares.  These episodes will be from the Whoopi Goldberg years.  Finally, at 1:30PM ET is Jeopardy!.  Not sure why we're seeing Love Connection comin

“Jeopardy!” Contestant from 1999 Tricks Show; Appeared Again on Monday

It's not often we get fun stories like this.  Thanks to reader Andy Saunders for bringing this to my attention.  On Monday's edition of Jeopardy! contestant Jeff Kirby didn't do so well.  He ended with a score of $300 but collected the third place prize of $1,000.  Interestingly, though, he previously appeared.  Jeff Kirby was on the show on December 8, 1999, and came in third place then as well where he won a digital camera.  He had no explanation and there was no error on his previous show.  He just ended up on the show again and did just about as well on his second appearance.  So what happened? Allegedly he essentially tricked the producers and casting directors and ended up passing the written test (again) and the auditions (again)

Fox Reality Channel to Cease Operations; Will Someone Pick Up “Solitary”? Thumbnail

Fox Reality Channel to Cease Operations; Will Someone Pick Up “Solitary”?

Some bad news today in the unscripted TV world.  Fox Reality Channel, which is a big reason why we saw Game Show Network switch to GSN, will cease operations in early 2010.  At least to me they didn't have a ton of programming I enjoy, but it's always bad to see something like a network go under.  They did carry some good shows (including game shows) that will sorely be missed.  They ran occasional marathons of The Mole which is, to me, pound for pound the best reality show there has been.  They aired marathons often of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? and Don't Forget the Lyrics! in addition to some other stuff.  It's awful seeing the people at the channel lose their jobs as well.  I wish them the best and hope they find something very

GSN’s David Schiff Discusses Season Two of “The Newlywed Game” Thumbnail

GSN’s David Schiff Discusses Season Two of “The Newlywed Game”

We've plugged it enough so you're most likely well aware that today is a pretty exciting day for The Newlywed Game.  It's the first celebrity show of the season (is it the first celebrity show for the series ever?) with contestants George Takei and his husband Brad Altman along with Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry (Trivial Pursuit and America's Next Top Model); and finally Damien Gurganiousand wife Nicole Brewer who apparently lost a ton of weight on The Biggest Loser and were deemed celebrities for not being obese anymore.  Celebrity standards are fun, aren't they? Anyway, we're well aware about the fact that tonight has the first same sex couple but I hate to keep harping on that fact since it almost seems exploitative by now.  I

Jehan Shamsid-Deen Leaves “Millionaire” with $250,000 in Most Exciting Finish in Years Thumbnail

Jehan Shamsid-Deen Leaves “Millionaire” with $250,000 in Most Exciting Finish in Years

I don't think it's a big surprise to anyone (nor is it bad to admit it) that the daytime Who Wants to be a Millionaire hasn't had a lot of really exciting moments in the past two or three years.  We had a few big thrills in primetime but nothing has really created an incredibly tense exciting atmosphere in a very long time, which is a huge reason why the show is a success.  Thankfully today's carryover contestant, Jehan Shamsid-Deen, changed that.  Jehan started the show with $250,000 and no lifelines going for $500,000.  Her question was: The only woman ever to be awarded the Medal of Honor received it for her service in what war? A: Iraq War B: Vietnam War C: World War I D: U.S. Civil War I won't put the video on

“Newlywed Game” and “Catch 21″ Begin New Seasons Tonight on GSN Thumbnail

“Newlywed Game” and “Catch 21″ Begin New Seasons Tonight on GSN

We've had new game shows debuting just about every week since the beginning of September it seems.  Tonight GSN is adding its new seasons to the mix.  Two of its most popular games are back.  Newlywed Game with Carnie Wilson and Catch 21 with Alfonso Ribiero and Mikki Padilla return at 6:00PM ET and 6:30PM ET with replays later that night.  Both shows essentially stay the same from last season, but there's a lot of celebrity going around each. First, on Newlywed Game, as many of you are aware the first ever same sex couple will appear on the show Tuesday, October 13th at 6:00PM ET with an encore at 9:00PM ET.  Competing couples will be Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry along side Damien Gurganius and wife Nicole Brewer.  Future celeb

George Takei and Brad Altman Behind the Scenes on “Newlywed Game”

We've got a cool video for you this afternoon.  GSN provided us with a behind the scenes look at The Newlywed Game, which starts its new season tonight at 6:00PM ET.  Featured in the video is the celebrity couple George Takei and Brad Altman.  They discuss what they thought of their experience, the show, and Carnie.  It's a pretty interesting video.  Take a look.

Jehan Shamsid-Deen Goes for $500,000 Today on “Millionaire” Thumbnail

Jehan Shamsid-Deen Goes for $500,000 Today on “Millionaire”

We're a few weeks and a few decent winners into the new season of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and we finally had our first $250,000 this past Friday. Jehan Shamsid-Deen, a non-profit program officer from Concord , NC, is in the Hot Seat at the start of today's show (Monday, October 12th). She's already at the top of the Tournament of Ten leaderboard if she stops, but she's just two questions away from winning her own million dollars and leaving the million in the tourney to the other ten. She's got no lifelines but if you saw Friday's show, she's an incredibly good player who has a shot. We've got the $500,000 question for you right here.  It seems like a regular piece of hard trivia, nothing unbelievably obscure, so there's a chance

Weekend Replay: New “Lingo” from the Netherlands Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: New “Lingo” from the Netherlands

We've got a pretty cool Weekend Replay for you this weekend.  I constantly get emails asking for new episodes of Lingo on GSN.  The show may be done with here, but it's still going nicely in the Netherlands.  It's been on the air since 1989 and is a huge inspiration for what you see on the GSN version.  Few changes have come over the years, but some of the stuff included would have been fantastic to see on our version.  The show is currently hosted by Lucille Werner.  There's apparently a Dutch law that says everyone who hosts a Dutch game show must be hot.  I can think of two or three reasons I adore the Netherlands to begin with, and this just adds to it.  Anyway, instead of five lettered words, their version plays with six letters on Mon

Bob Eubanks to Host Final “Newlywed Game” of Season on GSN Thumbnail

Bob Eubanks to Host Final “Newlywed Game” of Season on GSN

Well apparently you can't keep a secret in Hollywood, can you?  Yes, former Newlywed Game host Bob Eubanks will indeed host the final episode of the second season of GSN's revival, which begins Monday, October 12th at 6:00PM ET, on GSN.  I had a few audience members leak it to me and I was waiting for a press release where we knew me information than, "He's back!  Holy crap!"  But screw professionalism.  I don't think we've been that high on it the past nearly five years. So this is going to be interesting to see.  I enjoy Carnie Wilson, the current host.  I do think there's a complete difference between the Carnie we see on camera and the Carnie you see in person, uncensored.  But Bob Eubanks is the master of this game and even if you'r

Ratings Report: Syndicated “Fifth Grader” Opens Strong Thumbnail

Ratings Report: Syndicated “Fifth Grader” Opens Strong

We've got a lot of syndicated ratings in for the week ending September 27th.  The show I was most interested in seeing the results for, the new syndicated edition of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? have finally come in and it's looking very healthy.  Its first week on the air scored a 1.5 rating which is right around what Deal or No Deal started at.  Deal started strong but lost its steam at the end of the season and hasn't been able to gain it back yet.  We'll see what Fifth Grader looks like in a few weeks.  I really don't know how well it can do in the long run if it's aired as much as it is.  I mean the show airs in double-runs (twice a day) in most of the country to start.  Then you have CMT airing an hour of it a night, and MyNet

UK Game Show Updates; Lots of Renewals

We are finally back up after our upgrade, so thanks for the patience.  We want to test our new video software and we have a fun way to do it. I love posting clips of British shows here because it's stuff you normally don't get to see and maybe we'll get to check it out before it comes to America.  We saw it happen with The Cube.  Lots of other British shows are coming back for a new season, though.  The first one we'll discuss is Pointless.  This show is essentially a more trivia oriented reverse Family Feud.  A question is asked and teams have to come up with an answer that no one in the 100 surveyed group says.  Each person that said the answer you said is a point, and the highest point score at the end of each round is eliminated.  Th
