What Do You Think of “Trivial Pursuit”?

I've been looking forward to Trivial Pursuit, which debuted today in syndication, for a while.  The rules seem fine but the hosting worries me.  But more than anything, there hasn't been a long term successful non-primetime game show in syndication for a while, has there?  Pyramid did OK but apparently not enough for  Sony.  I'd love to see, with Trivial Pursuit, if it's possible for a game show to debut only in syndication, not have a broadcast counterpart, and still be successful.  And it's really going to depend on what you, the viewers, think.  So, what do you think?  Was the America's Team gimmick enough to keep you interested?  Or did you just get bored with the relatively safe and non-inventive basic format?

The Price is Right 37th Season Premiere Liveblog Thumbnail

The Price is Right 37th Season Premiere Liveblog

Hey everyone, Cory Anotado (and not Alex, you stupid commenters! Byline, attribution! These things MATTER! ;-)) here. This is my running commentary for the 37th Season Premiere of the Price is Right. If you're not prepared for spoilers, then it would be a good idea to not read this until or while you're watching the season premier. Now, this isn't really the greatest commentary ever, but picture it like Mystery Science Theater 3000: you kind of have to see it to get it, I guess. If you'd like an uncensored version of this, you can (and this is a selfless plug, but that's the kind of person that I am) go to my personal blog, the Fast Money Round and read more there. Fun edit number 2: watch the show if you missed it here: CBS.com 11:00 AM: It's in High-Def, and I'm watching it on a big screen tv that's sadly not HD-Ready. Let's see all the radical changes that exist. We're going to hid the rest of the commentary behind a cut, just to appease everyone. (more...)

“Trivial Pursuit” and “Price is Right” Start Today

We've got two more debuts today for you to enjoy.  The first is Trivial Pursuit: America Plays.  Pretty middling reviews so far, but from what I saw today it was enough to keep me interested.  The host, Christopher Knight, just was stiff and hopefully he can change as the season goes on.  Then again this was a hope last season for Crosswords's Ty Treadway and Temptation's Rossi Moreale. Coming up on CBS today is the new season debut of the show everyone loves to wet themselves about in fear, The Price is Right.  So far very very few of the changes which made people worry to a point of psychotic breakdowns have been implemented which is good.  If Drew can do as well this season as he did last season, it's sure to be great.  He was honestly amazing last year.  A new pricing game called Gas Money (also known as Deal or No Deal-lite) comes out too which looks to be pretty nice.  Let's see how much people can enjoy it.

“Bingo America” Season 2 Pictures and a DVD Game Thumbnail

“Bingo America” Season 2 Pictures and a DVD Game

We're going GSN crazy, aren't we?  If we keep getting news, we'll keep publishing.  We were given a few pictures of the new season of GSN's interactive game show Bingo America.  I keep hearing that Richard Karn did exponentially better than season one host Patrick Duffy, who was just too rigid and stiff.  New co-host Diane Mizota is also apparently a lot better than the last one, but that's not really hard.  Former co-host Crystal was just, well, there.  She could have been a cardboard cutout and it would have been the same. Not only that, somewhat amazingly to me, the show's already getting a DVD game.  I'll give them credit at least.  They are really selling this show on the fact that it's interactive, more than anything.  If they keep promoting the show in interactive ways, more eyes will hopefully flow in.  Because the show's honestly not bad.  It just needed some clean-up work and a new end game, which we get this season. Speaking of GSN DVD games, Lingo should be getting one soon as well.  But the Bingo America DVD game comes out at the end of October.  The new season of Bingo America starts Monday, October 6th, at the perplexing and somewhat aggravating time of 6:30PM ET on GSN.

Interview with Caroline Rhea

Today we have probably the favorite interview I've ever done: Caroline Rhea; the host of GSN's new Play It Back marathons on weekends. These marathons conclude being regularly scheduled on Sunday with a 90's special. I'm a fan of her stand up comedy so it was a huge thrill to talk to her. The interview's a bit longer but I edited out everything I could without taking out anything somewhat amusing and fun. I hope you enjoy. CAROLINE RHEA INTERVIEW

“Trivial Pursuit” Information

Wwe have some information about Trivial Pursuit.  If you've been following us at all over the past few weeks, you've noticed we've posted next to nothing about the show.  And there's a very good reason.  We've had nothing to post.  No real information has come out since the host, Christopher Knight, was announced.  It worries me a bit because I seem to remember a similar thing happening with Crosswords and Temptation.  But who knows.  Here's what we do know, though. Oddly enough the format seems to be remotely similar to the pilot, which was a bit bland if you ask me.  The entire point of the game is "America's Team", which are people who have submitted questions to the show either online or in one of the casting locations.  Questions in six categories are given to the three studio players.  Like the board game, the goal is to answer questions correctly to fill your pie piece up.  After round two, the player with the least pieces goes home.  Whoever wins the game (by filling their piece up) plays the end game: Hot Pursuit.  A question in each of the six categories is given to the player.  If the player answers right, more money goes into their bank.  A wrong answer puts money into America's bank.  Whichever team has more money at the end of the show takes it home (in the case of America's bank, the money is divid

Joey Fatone on “GSN Live” Today

Are you a fan of one of Joey Fatone's dozen or so shows he's done in the past year?  OK, that's an exaggeration, but he's been on a ton of stuff recently, hasn't he?  None has really been a winner, though.  However, he'll be on a winner today at least.  Joey Fatone will be visiting GSN Live during the classics block, specifically from 12:00PM ET to 1:00PM ET.
