Merv Griffin, 82, has been hospitalized for a recurrence of prostate cancer, a spokeswoman said Wednesday. He was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for cancer discovered during a routine examination a few weeks ago, said Marcia Newberger, spokeswoman for The Griffin Group/Merv Griffin Entertainment. Merv Griffin is the creator of hit games shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!. He's also had some not game shows that you probably wouldn't consider hits such as Monopoly and everyone's favorite Ruckus. He is also the mastermind behind the upcoming game show appropriately titled Merv Griffin's Crosswords. We can only hope Merv makes it through this.

I will preface this by saying that if GSN wants a good president and CEO, I feel they should be banging on Bob Boden's door and begging him to come back to GSN now that Cronin is gone. We'll get to this a bit later. However, we have a long voyage to go through first. This also includes 2002 ratings which are very interesting. Those are after the break. A press release for GSN went under the radar recently, and perhaps it was for the best. GSN has announced that they spent $500,000 on a new online marketing campaign to focus on online gaming rather than the television network. They will be focusing 85% of their online presence on their casual gaming and only 15% on the network. Because, you know, when you're at a .3, why bother trying to improve? Take a look at GSN's new front page here to get a glimpse. The first time I saw it, I really could not tell if it was a video game website or a television network. "GSN is the network for games and GSN.com is the Web site for games," said John P. Roberts, senior VP of digital media and interactive entertainment at the company. As a matter of fact, the site's 21 games have gotten over 3.1 million views just in the month of June. However, they obviously have heavy competition from places such as Yahoo and MSN. Read on for some opinions on this matter. Also, someone emailed me a very interesting press release from around five years ago that has some ratings information from 2002-2003. It's very interesting to see what has happened. (more...)

Last week we were given the ability to interview the host of GSN's new game show Without Prejudice?, Robi Ludwig. In the eleven minute interview, Robi discusses why she became a psychotherapist and took this hosting job, the psychology of the players and panelists, and the current state of prejudice in the country. Without Prejudice? debuts tonight at 9PM ET on GSN. Sorry for any brief background noise in the interview. The phone system has been acting up recently.ROBI LUDWIG INTERVIEW

EDIT: I am very sorry, I completely forgot to put the source and just realized it now. This won't happen again. This came from Variety. After the awful move of holding off 1 VS 100, NBC might be redeeming themselves soon as new entertainment executive Ben Silverman has confirmed that he is looking on making a new take on the campy classic American Gladiators under his Reveille banner. He declined to discuss how it would fit under NBC's brand, and he also did say that it's not a done deal yet, but there is one being planned as of now at least. So here's a fun question for you readers: can the show be revived properly? I mean part of the fun for the show for me was how corny and cheesy it was. And part of that came from the tone of the late 80s and early 90s. I really don't know if they can revive the show properly without making it either too serious or too goofy. However, if they can do it properly, I am completely on board. I'd rather have 1 VS 100, but I'm a big fan of American Gladiators and would love to see it again somehow.

If you enjoy Sony game shows on FLASHGames², sadly your days of those games are over. The gaming website was recently given a cease and desist letter from Sony, asking to remove many games such as Bullseye, Tic Tac Dough, The Joker's Wild, Russian Roulette, and High Rollers. However, don't worry; more games, including the return of Quickplay, are well on the way. This is a huge shame, though. Wonder what took them seven years since it is a rather high profile site and they've worked with Sony and GSN on projects.

NBC has announced at TCA that they are revising their fall schedule. The first change, is that Deal or No Deal is losing it's Monday timeslot, however they are moving it to Friday Nights at 8pm. The Singing Bee which was originally scheduled to replace 1 vs. 100 before premiering prematurely, will stay in it's 9:30pm slot this coming Fall. If you are still confused, here are the changes that you should know. Monday 8:00 p.m. Chuck (Replaces Deal or No Deal) Tuesday 9:30 p.m. The Singing Bee Wednesday 8:00pm. Thanks to our friend Andy Pei who clued us into a new show that's casting. It's called What It's Worth, and we're being told it's a bit like a Price is Right or Shop 'Til You Drop style show. On the contestant application, they are asking questions such as "Do you go to yard sales?", "Are you a bargain shopper?", and "How good are you at estimating the price of an item?" If you live in California and want a shot at the show, click here to go to the Craigslist page.

If you haven't played iToy's 1 VS 100 electronic table top game (you can read our review here), I strongly suggest you give it a try. It's a huge treat very well made. After the success of that, iToys has announced they will be releasing a Family Feud electronic table top game. It should be on the shelves in by October, so be on the lookout. I find the 1 VS 100 game at Target often, so I can't see a huge reason why Family Feud won't be there either.

We already talked about it, but another quick announcement for a good show doesn't hurt. That's The Question will start its second season on Monday, September 10th, at 7:30PM ET, replacing one of the airings of Camouflage. The format will be the same and the host remains the same. The new season should be taped in Los Angeles, but who knows how cheap they'll be. I was hoping for some changes, especially in the bonus, but hey, I'll take another good game. At least it's sort of quizzy. I would really love to see just one quiz show on the network, I really would.

The ratings page has been updated with the debut of The Singing Bee and Don't Forget the Lyrics!. FOX's new show didn't debut as well as NBC's, but both still did well. The real question is which is better? From what I've been reading over many places online and from opinions from people around me, it's a rather mixed response. Truth be told, I didn't really love either of them, but NBC's The Singing Bee was better. They didn't take it too seriously like FOX's did. Plus, Wayne Brady annoys the hell out of me.NOTICE: ALL PAGES ARE ON THE TOP RIGHT CORNER OF THE SITE. IT SAYS PROGRAM RATINGS.

According to the New York Post (so take this as you will), CBS is finally narrowing the The Price is Right hosting field. Supposedly the two finalists as of now are Todd Newton and current Entertainment Tonight host Mark Steines. Sources are saying that George Hamilton is now out of the running and the status of David Price and John O'Hurley, the other two names being mentioned for the gig, is unknown. From what sources told us, we've heard that Mark Steines is the strongest of the bunch so far. CBS has been very tight-lipped about who gets the position, which is rumored to have a paycheck of $3 million a year. They haven't given a ballpark date of when the announcement will be made either. This has been your daily Price is Right host update. We'll probably be back in about 15 minutes with another two front runners.
