Imagination Games, who released the not-too-shabby Deal or No Deal and Family Feud DVD games, has announced they have been awarded the license to exclusively create the Who Wants to be a Millionaire? DVD game in a three-year deal. Currently, the game is projected to debut in Fall 2007 and retail for $19.99. The game will be hosted by current Who Wants to be a Millionaire? host Meredith Vieira. To the right is what the box art is looking like as of now. I’m a big Millionaire fan, so the more games the merrier. How long has it been since we’ve had a quality Millionaire game anyway (not counting that plug-and-play game). The only thing that I hope gets fixed is the “3 Lifelines” thing that’s on the current box art. Having Switch the Question wouldn’t be bad, but it’s not enough of a reason to bitch and moan. Be sure to pick it up when it comes out.

On June 2nd, GSN will pay tribute to actor, director, and long-time game show panelist Charles Nelson Reilly by having an all day marathon. On Saturday, June 2nd, GSN will show the top episodes of Match Game featuring the famous panelist from 9AM ET to 7PM ET. Following that GSN will show The Real Match Game Story: Behind the Blank from 7PM ET to 8PM ET. On Sunday Night (Monday Morning), an episode of What’s My Line? from 1964 at 3:00AM ET and I’ve Got A Secret from 1972 cap off the weekend tribute.
Highlights of the Match Game marathon will be several “fun” fights between Reilly and Brett Somers – one so bad that Rayburn had to separate them; an episode when he was dropped from the ceiling in a harness; one where he helped a contestant win a record amount and another in which he dressed in western garb. Some episodes will also feature him singing, dancing and performing impersonations.
Today, OCA posted audience searches for the taping of GSN’s Grand Slam. Grand Slam will see 16 of the greatest game show champions going head to head in games of trivia, logic, and math as they race against the clock. The winner of the entire tournament will win $100,000. Contestants from Jeopardy!, Millionaire, and more will be there, so this may be an event not to miss. If you live in New York City and want to see the taping of this historic game show event, click here. Tapings are on June 6th, 7th, and 8th. Grand Slam is being hosted by comedian and talk show host Dennis Miller. We’re also being told that Power of 10 tapes in late July, but we are not positive.
Next Monday, June 4th, Jeopardy is debuting the Jeopardy! Google Daily Challenge, which takes a featured category from that day’s show and provides a clue to which the answer can be found through a Google search. Correct entries will then be put into a sweepstakes for a daily $100 prize or a grand prize of $25,000. A new challenge will be posted every weekday through July 13.
It was announced today that CBS has picked up the psychological game show Do You Trust Me? for six episodes. The new game from Lingo’s Phil Gurin and hosted by conservative pundit Tucker Carlson sees contestants wager how much they trust each other as they develop relationships in the game. No word on the specific air date or official rules or casting as of yet. But hey, we have another backstabbing game show it seems. I believe I said it before, I’m a big fan of shows like Friend or Foe? and Dirty Rotten Cheater so the more the merrier.
Very very quick post here. It was confirmed today that Roger Lodge will host the new GSN original game show Camouflage. You may remember Lodge from Blind Date, ESPN Trivia Pursuit, or other things. Of course, as I read the comments, odds are that you don’t remember him whatsoever. GSN has ordered 40 episodes of this new word game which will begin airing on July 2nd at 7:30PM ET. GSN’s TCA announcements are in early July as well.
Charles Nelson Reilly, most known for being a regular on Match Game, passed away Friday at the age of 76. He had appeared on nearly every episode of the Daytime Match Game and Match Game PM, including many appearances on Match Game 90.
Reilly was originally an actor and acting coach but then gained a Tony Award for his portrayl of Bud Frump in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Reilly directed The Belle of Amherst, a one-woman play starring Julie Harris based on the life of Emily Dickenson and later directed Harris again in The Gin Game. His final work was Save It for the Stage: The Life of Reilly, an autobiographical piece. In the 70s and 80s, he gained more fame for his infamous role on Match Game plus countless other game shows and talk shows. Most recently, he has done voice acting on the popular cartoon Spongebob Squarepants and as the boss of Drug Co. on The Drew Carey Show.
He died of pneumonia, and it was said he was sick for more than a year.
He will be missed. Rest in Peace.
A representative from Time Magazine told us that Time.com has listed their top 15 game show hosts of all time and it’s very interesting. Check the site out here for the full list. Just expect some old standards like Bob Barker plus some unexpected ones. Any comments on it?
This bit of news is a total surprise. According to Total Content & Media and 2waytraffic, GSN has renewed one of my personal new favorite shows, That’s The Question has been renewed for a new series of 65 episodes. The quote in full…
“”That’s The Question”, is also performing well with new deals in Finland, with Game Show Network in the U.S. where it has been re-commissioned for 65 episodes starting this summer and has just begun its first series of 60 episodes in the U.K.”
Now of course this isn’t official until GSN announces something, but it’s looking good. Again, it’s a rumor for now, but I’d be expecting an announcement during the TCAs on July 14th.
Checklist for GSN on this show:
1- Up the payouts maybe a tiny bit?
2- No more spelling or factual errors
3- Add more enthusiasm and excitement into the game
4- Have a nice set with an audience this time
Obviously this is unconfirmed until GSN sends out an official press release, but we’re hearing from people who have auditioned for the show and/or passed the test that the host of GSN’s new original game show Camouflage is Roger Lodge. Lodge hosted the long-running reality show Blind Date and also the severely underrated ESPN’s Trivial Pursuit, which deserved a much longer run than it got. On Camouflage, contestants are given a clue and the answer is right in front of the player’s eyes. However, decoy letters are placed in the middle. The point total drops as decoy letters disappear, so the quicker a player buzzes in, the better. The winner gets to play the bonus round for $5,000. The game feels a lot like That’s The Question, to be honest.
Speaking of That’s The Question, has anyone seen the new GSN bumper where Dylan Lane does the only passable thing he’s done on the network: play a game of fake charades? I see Bob Goen guessing along with Chuck Woolery and Shandi Finnessey. Beyond Catminster, which was basically a one time thing, is he doing anything beyond That’s The Question? Maybe we will hear about a new series of episodes in July during the TCA announcements.
