“Let’s Play Crosswords!” to Clear NBC O&Os

According to Cynopsis, a lot more people might be seeing “Let’s Play Crosswords!” on their screen come fall. The new Merv Griffin quizzer, along with Program Partners, is in talks with NBC O&Os (Owned and Operated stations) in New York, Chicago, and LA to clear for the fall 2007 season. With this deal, “Crosswords!” will be inching closer to the 70% mark desired for national clearance, which is needed to sell barter time and give the show a firm go. Still no word on any details about the show.

Donny Osmond Hosts “The Great American Dream Vote”

Donny Osmond, who is hosting “Pyramid” in England and hosted the pilot of CBS’s “Name That Tune”, is now attached to yet another ABC wish-fullfilling program, “The Great American Dream Vote”. In the show, eight contestants tell a studio audience what their dreams and desires are, and the audiences votes in several rounds to determine who deserves the prize money the most. The start date has not be announced. This aren’t looking good for Donny hosting “Name That Tune”, are they?

Richard Karn’s “Family Feud” Officially Goes to GSN

I’ll make this short and sweet: GSN did officially acquire the Richard Karn edition of “Family Feud”. Refer to the previous post for further ranting.

“Temptation” Host Named: Rossi Morreale

Any idea who this dude is? I’m stumped. The host of “Temptation”, the updated version of “Sale of the Century”, is Rossi Morreale. According to B&C, he was named one of People’s Magazine’s 50 sexiest men alive, he played college football, he’s done minor hosting work for TBS, Spike, G4, and ESPN, and that’s about it. Wish I could help you out more.

Me? I still think Mark Walberg could have been a terrific host, but we’ll have to see how he does.

Canadian and Australian “Deal or No Deal” Alterations

Taping was recently completed for the English Canadian version of “Deal or No Deal”, and good friend of Buzzer, Chris, has given us the low-down on changes for their edition:

*More lights on stage.  We’re hearing it’s psedu-”1 VS 100″ lighting.
*The main stage is in the shape of a maple leaf.  That’s rather amusing if you ask me.

* The backdrop is obviously Canadian instead of US, complete with a “view” of the CN Tower.  English Canadian “Deal or No Deal” debuts next Sunday right after the Super Bowl on Global.

Also, Australia has a minor change this season. The question portion is gone.  The producers will pick someone from a randomly selected block like previous times.  25 members will still be on the player’s bench.

“World Series of Pop Culture” Needs Audience

OCA has posted the “World Series of Pop Culture” audience site up again.  It lists no dates as of yet, but we’re hearing that it’ll be in the area of March 22-March 24th.  If you’re going to be in New York City at that time, try to get there, it’ll be fun.  If it’s anything like last time as well, you’ll have a chance to win prizes.  How can you lose?

Pocono Record Names “Playmania” in Top 10

The Pocono Record posted what they feel are the best TV shows of any genre, and to my surprise, GSN’s “Playmania” made that list at number 6.  They cite that the main attraction right now is host Mel Peachey, originally from England.  To quote, they say she is “the best British import since Bass Ale. Jump on her bandwagon while it’s still in the station.”  I have to agree.  “Playmania” is one of the channel’s best original shows they do, and Mel Peachey really stands out hosting.  She’s absolutely terrific and extremely beautiful as well.  Hopefully she moves on to bigger and better things as time goes on.

Rumor Control: Karn “Family Feud” to GSN?

This is as a rumor control right now.  We got an email from a good friend of Buzzer who told us that Karn Feud was picked up by GSN, but they have no idea on the air times.  Scanning, I saw that Mr. Beverly has it up as well, but nothing is official for me on this site until GSN confirms it, so check back on Monday.  If they did, then wow.  Maybe it was just me, but he was, without a doubt, the most non-funny, non-charismatic, terrible host that “Family Feud” has ever had.  I believe I screamed the joy of Karn being fired from “Feud” a bit ago.  Ah, yes I did.

For me, current host John O’Hurley really saved the show.  He proved that there is someone who can be comical as well as a good host.  And since O’Hurely ditched the jumping-at-the-repeat-buzzer gag, he’s become even better in such a short time.  It’s really terrific.  I’m not saying Louie Anderson was any better than Richard Karn.  At least Anderson was semi-funny at least, and “Family Feud” hinges on a host who can take the funny out of a family.  Instead, Karn took the funny out of the entire show and dragged it into an incredible stop.
