Over 49 finalists and 30,000 contestants were defeated to make one high schooler the winner of GSN’s $40,000 “National Vocabulary Championship”, recently held at the New York Public Library. This event, attended by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, US Deputy Secretary of Education Ray Simon, Chancellor of New York City Department of Education Joel Klein, and New York Library President Paul LcCerc, as well as GSN’s Rich Cronin, Dena Kaplan, and Princeton Review’s John Katzman, was hosted by “Chain Reaction” host Dylan Lane. To preserve the drama of the special, the winner is listed under the page break.
The 2007 winner of the “National Vocabulary Championship is Robert Marsland from Madison, Wisconsin. The special will air Sunday, April 15th at 8PM ET. It will show the finals and the $40,000 winner. Rich Cronin stated “We’re thrilled to congratulate Robert Marsland on becoming the 2007 National Vocabulary Champion of America. Robert beat 49 talented finalists and 30,000 total contestants from across the country so his victory is quite impressive.” Also, quite possibly the hippest chief executive officer, Princeton Review’s John Katzman was quoted with, “Props to Marsland. We were stoked to see him win. We want to give a shout out to Robert for being such a vocabulary master. Whoops, I mean that Robert is an erudite semanticist and we are awed by his achievement.”
