“1 vs. 100″ Video Preview

This aired on NBC, but I heard many many people did not see the preview. Follow the link at the end of this article and you can see quite a long commercial for NBC’s edition of “1 vs. 100″, starting October 13th at 9PM ET for a 5 week run. In “1 vs. 100″, one player, known as The One, has to battle against 100 other contestants, known as The Mob, in a trivia battle. For each right answer The One gives, each Mob member who answered incorrectly will place money, which goes up each question into the One’s bank. After each question, the player must decide if he/she wants The Money or The Mob, but if The One answers incorrectly, he/she leaves with nothing and the Mob splits the bank of the player. If The One eliminates all 100 people, that person leaves with $1,000,000. After watching this preview, am I the only one who is incredibly excited to see this come finally? Bob Saget looks like a perfect choice for host.

I like the idea, especally being the only one it seems who LIKED paranoia this seems like a cleaner, slicker version of Paranoia with an element (the audience elimination factor) of all things, The Better Sex. I do have 3 concerns…

    1. Random money amounts makes me worry of Jackpot! syndrome where a player will more zero in on one player to try to get the most money.

    2. As with any mob show (better sex, Jackpot, Paranoia, Winning Lines) Staging ot the mob will be crucial. Will we get to know some of the mobsters, none, or will it be a contestant playing against a wall of nothing (something that did in Winning Lines’ qualfying round).

    3. Bob Saget, while howie mandel fit perfectly with his new, shaven look, may be a little too much on the funny not enough on the drama. I LIKED richard karn on feud and was shocked he was fired. Id think he’d fit a little better.

    4. Honestly, HOW long will NBC take to F it up with internet, phone and other faceless players causing real dead air possibilities and other major issues not to mention making things boring and faceless (What did paranoia and Trivial Persuit the interactive game in. And one look at Play Mania shows everyone about the horrid possiblities of dead air with home viewer participation shows.)

  • KP says:

If they do insist on interactivity, they could do a LOT worse than inviting viewers to send in questions, using a few viewer-submitted questions per show, and inviting the writers of those questions to enter the mob on a future episode. I think that would be rather neat.

  • Nick Todor says:

Wow, I never knew there was a country named SWEEDEN.

  • Jordan S. says:

    Or Czeck Republic…

This is going to be an interesting show. They’re certainly promoting it as very confrontational; but the Friday slot is going to be a killer…

  • KP says:

What else is on Friday 9pm? (I’m from the UK so wouldn’t know.)

  • Joe Mello says:

Is it just me, or did Bob Saget sound congested? (I think he may have always sounded that way, but….)

Looks stylish and you can’t go wrong with digital-like fonts. The set kind of reminds me of the Republic Meeting-type Hall from Star Wars Episode III, but maybe I’m just weird that way.

  • Jack Hoff says:

It looks interesting. Why does the promtional video keep saying Friday the 13th? Is it really that scary of a show or will the ratings actually be the scary part?

  • Mark says:

I think the Friday 13 premiere date is just NBC’s cute little way of making sure it sticks in everyone’s heads.

  • James Vipond says:

I, too, fail to see how _1_vs._100_ could succeed on American TV. For a long time I have said that NBC ought to revive _Concentration_ with a new MC.

  • Brian says:

Ken Jennings makes a guest appearence? hahaha

This show may be better than I had anticipated…

  • Donald says:

I was watching Deal Friday night and when I came across the commercial for the show, I was getting all giddy inside waiting for the 13th to come so I can watch this show. It looks so freakin sweet. I hope it becomes a hit so I can have a chance to try out for it.

  • Devon Rosewarne says:

Wow!! This shows adds a whole new meaning to heartpounding thrills and chills. Bob Saget looks like he was having a great time as host and just looking at that mob would probably make contestants wet themselves. Seeing as how Ken Jennings makes an appearance on the show, I think “The One” is going to have a run for his/her money which will add some immediate interest and excitment to the show. The timeslot/day is perfect for me in general and I will DEFINITELY tune in to this!

  • nathan diniz says:

I think Bob Saget would be a great TV game show host! He did great with AMFV!

  • Scott Meckley says:

from what I seen of the commerical i am pumped up to watch this show. if it ends up being really good and has great ratings then I hope they make a dvd of this with Bob saget on it like deal or no deal was made with howie mandell. i think that bob saget will do well on this show.

  • Over 100 mobsters are out to beat Bob Saget (“Full House,” “Farce of the Penguins,” the 1996
Lifetime made-for-cable monvie “For Hope”) at his own game on the set of “1 Vs. 100″ as one
contestant eradicates all 100 members of the mob to win a million dollars. I will check out the
official “1 Vs. 100″ site at http://www.nbc.com/1vs100 to find out who’ll win the game.
