“1 vs 100″ Changes For Series 2
There were quite a few changes from the last series of “1 vs. 100″. If anyone missed it, here they are.
1- New money chain. It’s $1,000 + $1,000 for each new level all the way to $10,000.
2- You are FORCED to play the THREE $1,000 level questions before you can stop. You are also FORCED to play TWO $2,000 level questions before you can stop. You can stop after each question after that point.
3- There are three helps now. “Poll the Mob”, which is the same as last season where you select an answer, everyone from the mob who answered that is lit up and you can ask one person why they chose that. “Ask the Mob”, which is the same as last season where two people are randomly selected: one has the right answer and one has the wrong answer. You can ask each why they chose that answer, and this basically eliminates the 3rd answer. The new one is “Trust the Mob”, where you are FORCED to go with the mob’s most popular answer no matter what. You can choose which escape you’d like to use at any time; you don’t have to go in a certain order.
4- The graphics package got a much needed update, and everything looks crisp. The lighting was updated as well, along with having new consoles for the mob to answer and mics on each desk of the mob.
I like the new rules a lot, to be honest. We can get all the dumb people out of the way during the first 5 questions, because, as it was shown last night, the questions get quite a bit tougher at the $3,000/$4,000 level. My main issue this time was with Bob Saget. My lord, did he have to YELL AT EVERY SINGLE THING? I was mocking him a bit up at the top where I said forced in caps every time. It sounded like he was Richard Simmons. He needs to severely tone it down. He was fine last season. All in all, a very nice and welcomed return.

You can’t blame Bob Saget for YELLING at all KINDS of random TIMES during the show… he was just DOING what the producers TOOOOOOOOOOLLLLD him TOOOOOOOOOOOOO…
While the $1k and $2k questions are usually going to be painfully easy, if they’re going to force a contestant to play through multiple questions, they really should offer a buyout option in mid-level (even if it’s never used)…
Looks like NBC is trying so hard to kill 1 v. 100
Could that first guy have been any dumber? How do you not know the chemical symbol for iron? Also, DUH, the answer to the Borat question had to be Egypt, because the other two countries had to be close enough that they could each share a border with one country. Even if you have no idea where Kazakhstan is, there’s no way Egypt and China could share a border with it, and there’s no way Egypt and Russia could share a border with it. Therefore, Egypt HAD TO be the answer. Idiot!
(shakes head)
Mark…Mark…Mark.
Oh, I’m sorry that you think someone didn’t know the answer to a question off the bat is dumb, when in reality, that’s not a reflection on the type person they are. For the record, people can be affluent in certain subjects, and not necessarily in others. You can know some about this, and a lot about that. That’s still okay, isn’t it?
Geez…..
I agree. 1 vs 100 is MUCH better. It was good at first of course, but I’m glad they made it better. Set modernizations look great. Bob though does need to stop yelling all the time. That would be the only change. Now I want to audition even more. Either 1 or Mob.
I’m gonna be honest, this show is actually pretty good, and I’ve gone on record for doing nothing but trash Endemol. Bob’s yelling was pretty bad, but other than that, the show is cool. At least here, the contestants seem a little more natural.
To comment #4: I’m sorry, but when someone doesn’t know extremely basic chemistry OR extremely basic geography, there is a level of overall incompetence below what a game show contestant should have.
Oh yeah, and the fact that he took two helps on the basic geography question, when the guy with the correct answer obviously knew what he was talking about (the Vegas showgirl was clueless) also shows that he was somewhat of an idiot.
Mark…
Fine, thats your opinion! I don’t agree, but that’s your opinion.
Two words: LOVED IT! Bob’s yelling may get annoying at times but you can’t deny that he is so much more enthusiastic with the contestants and that was something he was in a way lacking in Series 1.
Knowing about Kazakhstan’s location in the world is “extremely basic” geography? I’m sorry the rest of us mere mortals aren’t as smart as you, Mark.
The Borat question was clever. The options should have made it manageable, but I think not knowing it wasn’t a mistake. The way he used his escapes (sorry, I’ve seen the Dutch version enough, I have to call them that)… bad strategy, yes, but no more.
Knowing that Egypt couldn’t possibly share a border with the same country as Russia or China is extremely basic geography. There’s something called the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf. It’s kind of like asking “What is 5632 x 2555?” and the choices are A) 2.5, B) 18, C) 14389760. No one could be expected to answer the question on their own, but the painfully obvious process of elimination is enough to figure out the right answer for anyone who has any sort of basic intellect.
I’m sorry. I’m just used to game show contestants actually being smart. I really hate watching people who simply don’t know basic stuff. Granted, this guy was not as bad as the woman who thought Miss Mayonnaise was in the board game Clue, but it was compounded by the one-time $3 million prize and the fact that they put in a guy who completely blew it, especially considering it was an especially dumb mob.
And no one cares but me, but yay, new font! The other one was unpleasant to look at. Arial – condensed or not – isn’t great, but isn’t bad.
These changes show that Endemol is trying really hard to get the game right with a good balance of money, helps, and escape opportunities. The last show was a good one overall. I do think there is too much money to be made early on, but I am glad that the option to take the Money or the Mob comes at more logical points (instead of after incredibly easy questions and incredibly low amounts of money). The third help is a great idea. More strategy for the One. But they could have done just as well with a scaled-up ladder and “outs” after questions 3 and 5 (i.e., $500 / $1000 / $1500 /out then $2000 / $2500 / out, then $3000, $4000, $5000, $7500, $10,000). Get to the big money quicker, with fewer and tougher questions, and the contestant will have more reason to risk it all.
Now, if they can just get more players like the lady who is holding over to the next show…someone really smart. Her game will be very fun to watch.
Each Mob member ought to receive a bonus for making it to the end of a a game if the contestant walks ($500 perhaps), or even better. Heck, when the Mob wins they actually save the show a lot of money, so spread some love around…
O.K. Mark, we get it. We are all used to seeing smart contestants on game shows, and that’s a very good thing. It’s just that certain people’s opinions of what a contestant does, and in some cases, what a contestant should or should’ve done vary a lot. Some people will disagree with those types of opinions on certain levels, depends on who you talk to.
Oh, and BTW, if you know Multiplication, you can figure any problem out on your own. Although, that was a good example of painfully obvious process of elimination.
